2 effective ways to track down your lost or stolen laptop

Regardless of whether your laptop was stolen or you simply misplaced it, it can be a scary circumstance to find yourself. After all, laptops carry a large part of our personal lives. They contain valuable information such as our bank codes and financial information. They also contain sentimental things: images of loved ones we will never retrieve, or novels we can never finish. Fortunately, there are several ways to find your lost or stolen laptop.

Each method is different and there is almost certainly a way to track it, regardless of your circumstances. Note, however, that you must implement both methods before such a mishap occurs.

Let's look at the two simple methods I talked about in the headline …

With LoJack Standard, users can remotely locate their laptop via WiFi geolocation. Software that uses this technology is extremely handy if you are looking for your laptop. If you upgrade to LoJack Premium, you will receive guaranteed laptop compensation if your laptop can not be retrieved.

Loot

There is also loot, which allows a free and paid installation for Windows, iOS, Linux, Android and Ubuntu etc. The free service protects up to three devices and stores a maximum of 10 reports per device.

Front Door

There are a few more solutions that should be listed here, but we will discuss them in more detail at a later stage. Let's take a look at method number two to track a laptop.

Method Two – Gmail IP, Dropbox Sync, and Social Media

If the robber opened your laptop, your Dropbox probably synced automatically (if the internet is available) and your Gmail account has been updated to download new emails.

These sessions are usually associated with IP addresses. How to find your lost or stolen laptop. Dropbox is ideal because it synchronizes your information in the background and therefore logs in constantly.

Gmail is a great way to find a thief, as he often flips through your emails to find private information. Facebook has a special tab for log-in locations, which should make it much easier to find your laptop from there.

If you have a Macbook, you can track it with iCloud as well. The feature is similar to the Find My iPhone app, which also works on iCloud.

As you can see, losing your laptop is not the end of the world because there are easy ways to find and retrieve it. Tracking software is by far the easiest, but for those who want to proactively search their laptops or simply can not afford the software, tracking the IP is an equally effective alternative.
