Pay (or send money)
Google Pay Send (formerly Google Wallet) is integrated with Gmail. Click on the dollar sign icon at the bottom of a message and you have the option to send money. Or select "Request money" to get someone to pay.
You and the recipient need a Google Pay Send account with attached bank details. The Google Pay Send setting for "send money via Gmail" must also be turned on. The maximum is $ 9,999 for sending or receiving.
Gmail is full of keyboard shortcuts for just about anything you can do. Take a look at the Minimalistic Gmail Cheat Sheet from Visual.ly for a graphically perfect look. Or, press Shift + while in Gmail for a pop-up list. To go up, go to the gear icon ()> Settings> Hotkeys and enable them to personalize the buttons you are using. You can not customize it if you use G Suite.
Use multiple Gmail accounts
If you're a Gmail superfan and have multiple accounts, you do not need to log in and out all the time. On the desktop (with Chrome, Firefox, Edge) you can simultaneously log in to multiple accounts. Everyone can take a tab and stay logged in. Click on the top right corner of your account avatar and select Add Account . To switch between accounts, click on your avatar again and then on the desired account. no password required The operation is similar on mobile devices.
Add more accounts to Gmail with Gmailify
Love the Gmail interface but do not want to give up your Yahoo, iCloud, or Outlook email address? No problem. With Google, you can add third-party email accounts to the Gmail mobile app, which adds Google features such as spam filtering and inbox registries to those accounts.
You need at least one Gmail account for it to work. To set it up on your phone, click on your avatar in the Gmail app and select Add another account . Select the account type to add and enter your credentials. You can then access each inbox or view all your emails in a single inbox on your phone or tablet. Go back to the avatar and select Manage accounts on this device to later disable or delete the account.
On the desktop, select the gear icon ()> Settings> Accounts and Import> Check email from other accounts> Add email account . In the pop-up window, enter the email address you want to associate, click Next and select Link Account to Gmail (Gmailify).
Access Gmail via Yahoo Mail or Outlook.com
On the other hand, you can also get your Gmail messages from Yahoo. In the latest version of Yahoo Mail, click the settings icon ()> More Settings> Mailboxes> Add Mailbox> Google . You can also add access to Outlook.com or AOL emails here.
If you're an avid user of Outlook.com, also switch to gear icon ()> View All Outlook Settings> Mail> Sync Email . You can connect up to 20 e-mail accounts, either Gmail or IMAP.
Checking which apps have access to Gmail
Last year's reports say some app developers can review your Gmail messages as they create new features. So you can occasionally check which apps have access to your accounts. Go to myaccount.google.com> Security. Under Manage apps with account access, click Manage third-party access to disconnect all unnecessary apps.
Sending from another email address
You may have many Gmail-based accounts or multiple addresses in the same account. You can set up all addresses in your primary Gmail and make it look like you're sending from a completely different account, either constantly or per message. Go to Settings> Accounts and Import> Send E-mail as. Add multiple e-mail addresses. This is great if you send many messages through one account, but you want to include the answers in another account.
Moving messages to other accounts
You can sign in to multiple Gmail accounts on the desktop and on your phone at the same time. However, with the integrated iOS Mail app, you can move a message received in one Gmail account to another Gmail account. or any email using iMAP. This is very handy if you send business emails to your personal address or vice versa. To move, open any inbox (or the combined Inbox of all accounts). If you are in a message, tap the folder icon (). In the list, tap Edit select the check box next to the messages you want to move, and tap Move . Click Accounts above to select the account to which the message should be sent. Then select the label / folder in this account to which you want to move the message. It is instantaneous. I do not care why no other email app supports this amazing option.
Do Not Just Label Spam, Block Users
With Gmail, you can completely block every single sender that bothers you. On a desktop or mobile phone, select the ellipsis menu () next to the answer button in a message and select block "[Username]". Any message from this email address will then be sent directly to your spam folder.
Sending E-mails to Gmail
We all know the panic of clicking too soon to send. With Gmail, you can add a buffer to "undo" an accidentally sent message.
With the last launch of Gmail last year, Undo is now enabled by default and can not be disabled. However, you can set how long you have to unsubscribe from an e-mail. Go to the gear icon ( and select how long you can undo a sent message (5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds). Then scroll down and save the changes. Whenever you send a message, an undo link is displayed in a black box on the desktop in the lower left corner of the screen and on the bottom right of the phone. )> Settings> General
If you click on the link before the time runs out, your message will not go out. You can re-edit it before trying again, or delete it completely. You can also undo discards. If you delete a message you just deleted, you can retrieve it and start it again.
Drag messages or labels
Gmail does not run "folders". Instead, it has "labels". They are functionally identical but uncomfortable for those accustomed to the entire folder paradigm. It's easy to drag a message from the Inbox onto a label and have it archived for later searches. However, if this message requires further attention in the Inbox, you can drag the label from the left sidebar to . It stays in the Inbox, but is ready for later archiving.
Send + Archive
Flag a message before by clicking the menu More Options () in the lower right corner of the Composition window. You can then archive it immediately when it is sent.
Go to Settings> General> Send and Archive . Check off " Click the" Submit & Archive " button in the response." If a response you have already submitted contains a label, a new Send + Archive button appears (although it does not really mean "archive"), it displays the Gmail archive icon, like a file list with a Down arrow on it.) Clicking this button archives the entire thread in the previously assigned label / folder.
Preview in a pane
Most desktop email programs, such as Outlook, preview: You click the message in a list and see it in another pane. Enable this in Gmail under Settings> Advanced> Preview Pane> Enable . Then scroll down and click Save Changes. Your browser window will be refreshed, and when it loads, a four-line drop-down menu () will appear at the top right. Click the drop-down menu to select how you want to preview your messages: under your e-mail ( horizontal subdivision ) or right ( vertical subdivision ). If no message is selected, the panel previews how much space your messages use outside the allocated space.
Points are an Illusion
The most well-known secret of all time regarding Gmail is that it ignores time periods in your e-mail address. So firstname.lastname@example.org is the same as email@example.com or even y.o.u.r.n.a.m.e. @gmail.com. They all go to the same person. This feature may seem pointless, but you can still see the pattern, so it's a great trick to sign up for newsletters or share your email address – for example, you can see who sold your name to spammers ,
Add Plus to Your Address
Another time-tested Gmail address trick: Gmail ignores everything after a plus sign (). So, firstname.lastname@example.org goes to the same place as email@example.com. The difference is that this alias is very useful for filtering messages. Gmail filters see what's behind the plus. So, if you sign up for each newsletter with your name + news @ gmail.com, you only have to filter for messages sent to that address, not every single newsletter sender. (However, this does not always work because many services do not allow logins with emails with optional characters whose plus sign is one.)
Power Your Search
The quick way to perform a power search on Gmail is to click the down arrow () in the search box, which will display the search dialog shown above. However, Gmail supports many search operators.
For example, type "in: Trash" and "In: Spam" to include these folders in a search (they are usually skipped). Or limit a search to "In: Inbox". Use "label:" followed by the label / folder name to search only this folder. The "filename:" followed by the filename of a current file will find certain attachments.
Use a minus sign (hyphen) to search for one thing and not another: "dinner -movie" would only find messages that say "dinner" but skip any mention of "movie". The other supported Boolean operator is "OR" (in capital letters), but the full list contains many more options.
Customizing Your Gmail Inbox View
This tip is more about disabling a feature than about enabling it. The tabbed interface was introduced by Google in 2013 to automatically place items in your Gmail inbox. The tabs each have a category: Primary (which is your typical Inbox), Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums. Yes, this is a "category", not a "label" – they are not the same.
If you feel like you're missing out on some news, this may be because Gmail takes them in the latter categories and you did not click the tabs. You can exit the tabs by clicking Settings ()> Configuring Inbox . Hover over each option to see examples of messages that may end up on these tabs. Disable any tab you do not want to use. Note that the categories only affect messages in the Inbox – not what's already archived.
This tab-based setup is the default for Inbox, but you can change this. Hover over the word Inbox in the top left corner and an arrow will appear. Click to choose between Important First, Unread First, First Marked, or Priority Inbox. These first three options display these message types at the top of your Inbox. Priority Inbox automatically filters inbound Gmail messages to get the most important messages up, followed by asterisked emails and all others below.
Answer in a Tin
Stop writing so much, especially the same message over and over again. Canned responses are a must for repeated, redundant, and repetitive emails. Activate it via Settings> Advanced> Canned Responses> Enable . Scroll down to "Save changes" and your browser window will reload. Create a new email and enter an answer. In the bottom right corner of the message, click the ellipse () and select "Scheduled replies." Here you can save the message just entered as a predefined answer or apply an already saved preserved response to the current window. If you rewrite the ready-made response, you can save it again under the same name for later use.
Smart Reply and Smart Compose
Smart Reply is a machine learning technology that prepares three short, fitting answers to received messages. By tapping the offered answer once, it will be added to the response window where you can send it or write more. It will appear in the Google Mail apps for iOS and Android as well as on the desktop web interface. If you find these suggestions annoying or confusing disable them by going to Settings> General> Intelligent Response> Intelligent Response from and then scroll down to save the changes.
Compose suggests words or phrases to use when entering an e-mail. For example, if you type "I hope you", you will see that "good" appears in grayed out text. If you wanted to say that, click on the tab button. Gmail automatically adds "good" to your email. If not, just keep typing and the suggestion will disappear. To turn this off, go to Settings> General> Smart Reply> Smart Compose> Disable Write Suggestions and scroll down to save the changes.
Google Saves ALL The Pictures
If you receive an email with an embedded image, this is usually like a web page. The image is loaded from the source. Not with Gmail. In 2013, the service began by caching all images passing through the system. When you upload an image to a Gmail message, it comes from Google servers.
Theoretically, it is more difficult for fraudsters to include malware in e-mailed images, but this is not always the case. If you are worried about it, go to Settings> General> Pictures check "Ask before viewing external images" and save the changes. This will load messages faster. However, if you send emails with attached images, Google will not prevent them from caching them. If your images are confidential or copyrighted, and you do not want them on any of Google's servers for any reason, look for another way to send them.
Remote Log Out
You can access Gmail from multiple computers, smartphones, and tablets at the same time. Sometimes you stay logged in if you do not intend to (say, on a public computer), or, worse, suspect someone of using your account behind your back (enable two-factor authentication to avoid this). Scroll down the desktop to the end of your Inbox. In the fine print at the bottom of the page is Last Account Activity followed by a time. Click on the link Details to view all activities for the account. Click the button to log out of all other sessions used.
Back Up Any Message
Should you trust Google to always store all the important news, not to mention contacts and attachments? Of course not. Thanks to Google Takeout, users can download their entire Gmail file in standard MBOX format, which they can later view with an email client such as Thunderbird. You do not have to receive all your mail; Select only specific labels or categories by clicking . All e-mail details are included if you prefer.
Download only one message
If you receive a message with specific formatting or attachments that you want to send, but you need to use another email service, the Download Message option (under the Ellipsis Menu ) downloaded A single message in an EML format supported by all e-mail clients such as Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail.
Press the Mute key
For e-mail threads that you want to ban, press the Mute key. Click the box next to the thread in your Inbox, click the ellipsis icon ( above) and select Mute. The thread will seemingly disappear but remain in the archive even as new messages arrive. You will no longer see messages in the thread if you are not the direct recipient or are looking for it.
If the mute is too final, slumber
If you want to mute a discussion for a limited time only, hover over the email or thread in your inbox on the desktop. At the far right you will see icons to quickly archive, delete, mark as read or delete a message. If you click Snooze, the message disappears from the Inbox and will be returned after the amount of time you specify.
My God is Full of Stars
Stars give meaning to the message, which means that it needs to be read later, that it needs to be tracked, asks a question that you can not answer at the moment, or possibly all of the above , If you click on the star in a message, it will be highlighted so you can easily find it (under the highlighted label / folder or after: asterisks).
They are not limited to a yellow star. Go to Settings> General> Stars and enable the option to use a star, four stars, or all stars. Then click on the star icon of the message itself to go to the desired star
Looking for a special star icon? For example, search "has: blue-star" to find those with blue stars, or "has: green-check" or "has: purple-question" or "has: orange-guillemet" (these are the duplicate carets :
To select all Gmail emails
To select all messages on a page in Gmail, click the checkbox in the upper-left corner to the right. Nearly. Checking this box will select all conversations on the first results page. That's a maximum of 100 elements. If you want to display all under this label, whether visible on the page or not, check the box and look for the link at the top of the results that says "Select All X Talks in ". Etiquette & # 39;. "
Add to Tasks or Create Event
If you have Gmail, you have a Google Calendar and Google Tasks account. Converting an email to a calendar event or task list is a breeze: When reading the message, highlight Text, open the More menu (), and select either Add To Tasks or Create Event. "
The first trick for attachments: do not forget it. Fortunately, Gmail displays a reminder if your message contains phrases such as "I've attached" or "I've included", but you click "Submit" without adding anything.
You can drag and drop files from Windows or Mac into a Gmail system message. Images are embedded in the message unless you drag the file to the toolbar below the Composition window. Do not add too many. There is a limit of 25 MB per Gmail message. If you try to send too much, the files will be sent to Google Drive and the recipient will receive a link.
If you're a big Google Drive user, appending items already in Drive is not just a breeze against the 25MB limit. In the composition window toolbar, click the Insert Files icon with the drive () to select a file to attach. This also links you to the type of files that Gmail blocks, such as EXE files.
Want the same for your Dropbox account? Chrome users can get it with the Dropbox for Gmail extension.
Setting Up a Delegate
You can hire someone else to control your Gmail account, be it a company administrator or someone else. Set up the account at Settings> Accounts and Import> Grant access to your account> Add another account . The person must also have a Google or Gmail account whose email address must end with the domain name that matches you, e.g. Gmail.com or a domain that is used as part of G Suite.
If you go to the path above and find a delegate that you have not authorized, change your password immediately – you probably became phishing.
Delete large messages
If you want to use the 15 GB of free Google storage and you do not want to pay anymore, delete some messages. Look for " Size: x m " replacing the x with a number. The "m" stands for megabytes. Any message larger than 10MB will likely have some powerful attachments – save it to your hard drive (not Google Drive – this is space you share with Gmail so you can not save anything.)
Another Option: Find Big Mail, a service that automatically creates labels for your oversized messages, making them easy to find. It's free for a single Gmail account. Only G Suite users will be charged.
Speed up slow Gmail
Serve Some Emoji
I wish you could send small pictures instead of text in your Gmail? You can. Just click the grinning smiley menu in the Composition window in a desktop browser, or press Ctrl + Shift + 2. Click the magnifying glass () to find exactly the right thumbnail. The emojis do not always translate well – I've sent a lot of Yahoo Mail and did not understand the cat pictures at all – but Gmail users may get some news.
Do you receive many newsletters and other trash you do not want? Most people have a link to unsubscribe at the end of the message that they can and should use. Gmail (cell phone and desktop) also sticks an "unsubscribe" link at the beginning of the message, next to the name of the sender, if the link in the message can be recognized.
For a Simple Cleaning Enter "unsubscribe" at the top of the search and you'll see a list of all the messages that contain the word. Go through the steps – it's as close as possible to get the bulk unsubscribe without a third-party service. For more information, see Logging out unsolicited emails.
Archive to Inbox Zero
"Inbox Zero" is the amazing Zen status you get when you have unread messages in a Null Inbox. This is not easy because e-mail messages can contain reminders of tasks or events. Worse, mailboxes can be like the inbox of a desk – a lot of things you've avoided so far.
If you can not bear marking a message as read in case you need to go back, or worse, you'll never delete a message that you'll need to refer to later. However, you can still go to Inbox Zero. Just archive the news.
That's what labels do – they archive messages under a label to find them later. However, you do not need a label to archive messages. If you are reading or selecting a message from the Inbox, click the Archive button at the top (the file box field with the down arrow). The messages are not displayed by Gmail. Search for it later with a search.
There is no name for "Archive", but you can look under "All Mail" in the left navigation on the left. Keep in mind that archived messages still apply to your Gmail store because you're saving them. If you really want to get rid of them and their attachments, drag the message to the trash where it will be stored for 30 days before it is permanently deleted.
Better yet, remove frequently received and ignored messages that you can not delete as receipts by automatically archiving them by using filters. Click on a message, and then select the menu More > Filter messages like these . A form is displayed that automatically populates information about the message (for example, who it is).
