Over 1.5 billion people use Gmail to stay connected with friends and family, to keep in touch with their peers and superiors, and occasionally send grumpy cat membranes. With all the back and forth flying vacation photos, spreadsheets and animated gifs, errors can occur.
If you've ever accidentally sent photos of Baby Yoda cat to your entire work team, or a video of Cinderblock the fat cat for your significant other who is in the gym. You know the kind of regret that makes you wish you could meet Unsend. Fortunately, Google knows, and the search company has added the option Undo to Gmail to undo exactly these types of accidents.
But that's not all. Gmail is full of hidden tricks to help you tackle all modern problems, from instant email regret to spam filtering ̵
For all kinds of situations that can go south with just one click, there are five ways Gmail will help you the next time you send an email.
30 seconds to regret: How to send Gmail messages
Almost everyone found a typo after the hit by Send . Or worse, I wish they could do without any
By default, Gmail gives you five seconds to take it all back, but you can increase it up to 30 seconds to give your future self more time to fix a bug.
First click the gear icon in the upper right corner and navigate to Settings> General . At the top of the list of settings you will find Undo sending: followed by a drop-down menu.
Change the value from 5 to 10, 20 or 30 seconds, and you're done. You now have a lot more time to change your mind by clicking on the banner at the bottom of the screen that you see after sending your message.
Unlimited aliases, a type of
Have you ever signed up for a newsletter to get a discount on a retail website, or were you frustrated after getting rid of all the junk emails that came up Send your streaming services, had to unsubscribe? There is a way to fix unsolicited email without having to create a completely different Gmail account.
Just add a + to the end of your username (but before the "@") Endless variations of your Gmail address. For example, the email@example.com routes emails to your primary address without passing them on to spammers. You can then filter messages containing "Username + Junkmail" in your junk or trash folder so that you never have to bother to delete them again.
Not only is this trick useful for filtering junk emails, it also allows you to create an infinite variety of email addresses for all of your different roles in life, while managing a single login for everyone ,
Do you use your personal email address for your job? Create firstname.lastname@example.org to identify all business email. Member of a book or car club? Use email@example.com to track email from other members. Active in your church? Create firstname.lastname@example.org to separate the sacred from the profane.
Using filters more creatively
Filters can do much more than just divide emails into categories. For example, if you create a filter that searches your inbox for the word "unsubscribe" and automatically sends these emails to your junk folder, all newsletters that you may or may not have subscribed to will be discarded.
A "tracking number" filter gathers tracking information for all of your purchases in a specific folder. You can even create a filter to mark all messages as "read", so you never have to worry about the little badge icon that you use to check your email every five minutes.
7 steps to a tidy inbox
1. Click the gear icon and choose Settings .
2. Select the tab Filters & Blocked Addresses .
3. Click Create New Filter.
4. Enter keywords in the appropriate field: From Filter by sender Scan entire emails with the words etc.
5. Click Create Filter .
6. Decide what to do with the filtered mail: Delete it Skip the inbox (archive) Mark as read Important etc.
7. Click Create Filter .
If your phone stops working, send text from Gmail instead.
You don't need a charged phone with a data or Wi-Fi connection to send a text message – Gmail can do it right from your desktop.
You only need to know the recipient's phone number and provider. To send them an SMS, write an email in which you enter your 10-digit telephone number (without hyphens) as the user name and the gateway address of your network operator (available on the websites of the network operators) as the domain in the "To" field " enter.
An email-based text for a Verizon customer looks like this: email@example.com. Other common domains are @ mms.att.net for AT&T, @ messaging.sprintpcs.com for Sprint and @ tmomail.net for T-Mobile.
Did you forget to unsubscribe? Remote Logout
If you frequently access your Gmail account from a public computer, e.g. For example, in a library or school, you may occasionally forget to sign out of your account after the process is complete. This makes you vulnerable to attacks. Access to your password-protected Gmail account may be all an identity thief needs to take control of your bank accounts, credit cards, and if you have smart home devices like smart locks or security cameras, your home yourself.
Luckily, Gmail lets you view and sign out of any computer or device you're currently signed in to. Just scroll to the bottom of your Gmail page and click on Details (the link is just below the Last Account Activity message). This will bring up a page that will appear wherever you are currently logged in. If you click the button above labeled to log out all other Gmail web sessions you will be logged out of every session except the current session in.
