Major changes are coming toannounced Apple on its keynote on Monday.
Apple Watch ($ 463.00 on Amazon.com) Users can expect a walkie-talkie mode that lets them instantly connect with friends and family through short audio snippets. Third-party apps can be viewed in the Siri dial. And will be accessible from your watch.
However, some of the biggest updates in WatchOS 5 are for the many people who use their Apple Watch to track their workouts and fitness. Here are four new ways Apple Watch will help you close your rings.
One of the best things you can do for your own fitness is an accountability partner. For example, with Fitbit you can compete with your friends most of the time. Soon there will be the Apple Watch.
WatchOS 5 lets you challenge your friends to weekly competitions. You can track the progress of your friends and see how your progress compares with those of your friends.
Automatic training detection
Probably the biggest new fitness feature on the Apple Watch is automatic workout detection. If the Apple Watch detects that you start training, it will indicate that it is starting to track it.
And best of all, if you've missed a few minutes before you start training, Apple Watch will give you a retrospective credit. And if you forget to stop tracking after training, the Apple Watch detects it and automatically stops it.
More training modes
Apple has also announced 12 new training modes. Yoga, for example, is a recognized type of training today. As well as hiking, the pace, heart rate and altitude recorded.
New readings while running
While running, you get new readings during the workout. For example, during an outdoor run, the Apple Watch keeps track of your speed. You can also set up a step warning to keep the target pace. And you can see your cadence to track your steps per minute.
Listen to podcasts
Technically, this is not a fitness-oriented feature, but it's not unusual to start a podcast for a hike or other workout. Now podcasts come to the Apple Watch. Your progress in a podcast will be synced across all your Apple devices, and you can search for podcasts in any Apple podcast by asking Siri.
