Learn how to found a garden

OK, so maybe did not set up your garden yet, but you absolutely want it. Alexa can help you learn the basics, and finally helps you get this project started.

The Beginner Gardening skill guides you step by step through the process of starting a garden. While this ability can not overcome any obstacles that you encounter during the process, it gives you the basics and a clear path to starting your own garden.

Get detailed weather forecasts

After you've planted your garden, keep an eye out for the weather. Maybe there is one last cold spring in spring or there was a drought. Your plants may need to be protected from unusual or hard weather. So it's just smart gardening to know what the weather is like and to plan accordingly.

You can just ask Alexa about the weather ̵

1; it's a solid built-in feature. But if you want better, more detailed weather forecasts try the "Big Sky" skill. Big Sky is based on the Dark Sky API for hyperlocal weather forecasts, hour after hour and up to your specific address. The forecasts are very detailed and incredibly accurate.

You can say things like, "Alexa, ask Big Sky if it will rain for the next three days," or "Alexa, ask Big Sky about tomorrow's weather."

Create Remedies for Watering Plants

Some plants need to be watered more than others, especially if they are extra dry. Use your Alexa speaker to create reminders for specific plants.

Say something like "Alexa, water the tomatoes tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock" At 7 o'clock the next day, Alexa will light up with a notification and you will receive a push notification on your phone asking you to put the tomatoes to pour.

Of course, if you have a varied garden, you can also create a calendar and then link that calendar to Alexa. If you ask for your flash briefing or say, "Alexa, my schedule," Alexa can tell you if you need to water any of your plants.

Control the Sprinklers

More and more smart home gadgets are now working with Alexa. Smart sprinklers are no exception. For example, Rachio sprinklers can be controlled by your Alexa speaker.

After you've set up your Rachio sprinklers and connected your account to the Amazon account connected to your Alexa speaker, you can turn the sprinkler on and off with your voice. You can also pretty much specify how, where, and when a sprinkler will run. Say something like "Alexa, tell Rachio to start Zone 3 for four minutes."

Listen to your audiobooks while you work

That may seem pretty obvious. Are you using a smart speaker to play an audiobook? How original. But gardening is a zen-like activity for many people. It's a great way to slow down, relax, get your hands dirty, and enjoy fresh air for a while.

It is therefore obvious that other zen-like activities can be combined during the garden. You can use your Alexa speaker to stream your favorite podcast or audiobook, or just enjoy quiet, atmospheric music while planting a few gardenias.
