The days are shorter, the nights are cooler and the smell of autumn is in the air. It's a perfect time to end the day with a warm and relaxing tradition: a cup of mulled wine.
What is mulled wine?
Mulled wine is a spice drink made from wine, several spices and sometimes fruit slices. They are usually a blend of aromatic flavors such as cinnamon sticks, allspice, whole cloves and fruit slices or peels.
Cardamom pods, peppercorns, star anise and dried ginger are also popular in soft drinks. Raisins are sometimes used as well. It only depends on the recipe.
To prepare, heat the wine (usually red) in a saucepan, add your spices and other ingredients, and sift.
Glow or spiced wine is served hot or consumed warm and traditional during the holidays, like Christmas, but this alcoholic drink tastes great even in cool autumn nights!
