With Alexa and the Echo, Amazon has built a robust service that can deliver seemingly endless information and control your home. But are you taking out everything that can do it?
If you have not exhausted the full potential of Alexa yet, these seven voice commands come closer to you. These are the amazing things that Alexa can do for you to use.
What makes Alexa so useful is that it can be plugged into many other smart home devices. Connect your Philips Hue or LIFX Smart bulbs to your echo and you can tell Alexa to turn on the lights.
Take it a few steps and create a routine when you arrive home, so that when you say magic words like "Alexa, I'm home," you turn on your lights, play music and the heat (or many) other types of actions).
Give Your Brain a Break from Remembering Important Information
Ever forget your sister-in-law's birthday or get your dry-cleaner? Alexa can remember you. Just say "Remember Alexa [exactly what you want to remember]" and it will take care of the rest.
Act as Host
If you have friends or relatives in your home, you will inevitably ask yourself what the Wi-Fi password is or where to find an extra set of towels. Let Alexa handle it with a. With a Skills Blueprint, you can create a custom Q & A for your home so that visitors can get answers without you.
Go to the "Skills Blueprint" page from Amazon and select the "Houseguest" option to create a guide with FAQs that your guests might have with you. When they arrive, they can ask, "Alexa, where is the toilet paper?" or "Alexa, how do I turn on the shower?" and it will give you the answers.
The Modern Intercom System
If you have multiple echo speakers in your home, you can easily create an intercom system to tell the whole house that dinner is ready, or Inform their roommates that they should keep the music down. To use this feature, you must enable it in your Alexa app.
Make Free Phone Calls
Making calls by hand (free and free) is easy with Alexa (perhaps too simple, as this family has learned from Portland). Just say the command "Alexa, call [phone number]" or "Alexa, call Mom" and your echo will dial the call.
It also works for mobile numbers and landline phones. With an Echo Connect and a home phone service (either landline or VoIP), your echo can also answer calls and you can dial 911.
Manage Your Schedule
Like any good personal assistant, Alexa can help you keep going up the top of your calendar and let you make quick changes. Just sync your Google, Apple, or Microsoft calendar account into the Alexa mobile app to get started (here's how to set it up). Then ask "Alexa, what's in my calendar for tomorrow?"
If you can not arrange a meeting, just say "Alexa, move me tomorrow at 1pm." or "Alexa, cancel my 9:00 am event."
Use Alexa with other smart devices
It's really satisfying to ask Alexa to "turn on the light in the kitchen," especially if you come home late at night. Likewise, it feels powerful to turn on the TV only with your voice.
In the Alexa app on your phone, you can connect the compatible smart devices in your home to control them. The possibilities are (almost) endless.
