Seven people were injured in a shooting at a funeral home in Milwaukee on Wednesday, reports CBS subsidiary WDJT-TV. All seven victims were hospitalized and are in stable condition, according to police.
Funeral attendees were gathered outside the Serenity Funeral Home when someone opened fire from a vehicle, police said. The victims were between 20 and 48 years old.
According to WDJT, the funeral was for Braxton Taylor, 26, who was shot dead on September 26th. Police are checking to see if the shooting was aimed at the funeral but have no known motive.
Police are looking for an unknown suspect and say they do not know how many people are in the vehicle. Acting chief of the Milwaukee Police Department, Michael Brunson, said the department was “working feverishly”
“This is an untenable situation,” Brunson said at a press conference. “This bold act, done in broad daylight, is simply unacceptable in our city.”
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett also called the shooting “unacceptable”.
“After four straight years of fewer murders and non-fatal shootings, we’ve seen a dramatic increase this year here in Milwaukee. This is unacceptable to me, unacceptable to the people of this town, and I know it is unacceptable.” to the chief of police and the members of the police department, “he said.
