Amazon and Google fought for a long time for Smart Speaker Spot No. 1

. And while Google Home offers features that Echo does not like listening to multiple commands at the same time, Amazon has a number of unique capabilities that Google has not yet mastered. (The Echo also has a sometimes unsettling sense of humor .)

Only Amazon Echo ($ 100 at Amazon) can guard your house and warn you if it hears anything suspicious while you're gone. You will also find out when your packages can no longer be delivered. Google Home ($ 79 at Walmart) still can't track your packages and can't tell you if someone breaks into your home after six other actions have been announced last week his portfolio, including sticky notes .

Read on for an overview of seven features of your Amazon Echo that Google Home does not offer, and how to set them up.

Delivery Notifications

Google Home's Smart Speaker doesn't tell you when a package should be delivered, but the Echo can definitely – no surprise as it's an Amazon product About.

Alexa will notify you from the time your Amazon order ships to the moment it arrives at your door. Just say something like "Alexa, where are my packages?" to get an update. You can also turn on domino notifications so you know when to expect your pizza order.

Alexa supports Amazon Music, Prime Music and Apple Music

While Google Home supports popular music streaming services like Spotify, YouTube Music and Google Play Music, Pandora and more, Apple Music and Amazon Music are still not supported , Both services come from major hardware competitors.

Alexa on the other hand. When you unzip your Amazon Echo, Amazon Prime Music is the default music service. However, you can also change these settings in Apple Music. The rivalry with Google seems to be so violent that Google Play Music is excluded from your list of options.

If you mainly listen to songs using Apple Music, open the Alexa app menu and select Settings . Under Alexa Settings, tap Music & Podcasts > Link New Service > and select Apple Music . Tap Enable Use and sign in to your account with your Apple ID.

There is an option in the Alexa app that allows you to create your own personal skills. To do this, open the app menu and select Blueprints .

Here you have a list of templates to choose from, e.g. B. Custom questions and answers, games, stories, greetings and more. When you have made your choice, tap Make Your Own to begin building your skill.

The skills you create are private, so only your Echo devices have the information. You can also create Alexa knowledge on your desktop .

You can put Alexa in your car with you in the car. Your Echo enables hands-free commuting so that you don't press any buttons on the car radio when changing lanes.

You can either connect your Echo Dot to a USB port or use Amazon Echo Auto and connect it to a USB port or the lighter port. Note that you need to use your phone's mobile data to use your echo in the car. Remember to hide the device when parking.

Echo can guard your home

If you leave town and are worried about leaving your home unattended, you can set up Alexa Guard on your Amazon Echo . After activation, your smart speaker waits for sounds such as glass breakage and an alarm. You can also turn your smart lights on and off periodically to make them look like someone else's home.

To set it up, open the Alexa app menu and select Settings . Scroll to the bottom of the list and tap Guard > Set Guard . Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. Now when you're ready to leave the house, just say "Alexa, I'm leaving" to activate Guard mode.

Note that Google Home can be paired with Nest Secure Google Home itself, however, This special guard action does not yet exist.

Setting location triggers

When you get home in the evening, it's nice to turn the lights on so you can see where you're going. With Amazon Echo, you can set up location triggers so the lights turn on automatically when you drive into the driveway. If you don't want to go into a dark house, of course you have to install intelligent lamps inside and out.

To set up location triggers, you need to create an Alexa routine . Simply open the Alexa app menu and select Routines . Tap the plus sign in the top right. Now you have to add the routine name, tap on When This Happens and select Location . Enter your home address, tap Arrives and then Next . Now select Add Action > Smart Home > and tap on the name of your Smart Lights, e.g. B. "Living room".
