Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 ($ 1,000 at Amazon.com) is bigger and better than ever. With a slightly larger display, a properly placed fingerprint reader and a new S Pen, the phone is developing into one of the best of the year.
Yes, there is a new S Pen. In fact, this is probably the biggest update that Samsung has given its stylus. In particular, thanks to Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, the S Pen can do more than just start air commands and let you draw on the screen.
What does all this mean? Well, let's take a look at some tips and tricks to get the most from the new features of the S Pen.
It has a battery
The S Pen uses a supercapacitor to operate its Bluetooth functionality, but let's just call it a battery. With such a small power source, Samsung estimates the battery life of the S Pen to be 30 minutes or about 200 clicks, whichever comes first.
The 9 mark will warn you if the stylus battery gets low, starting at 15 percent with reminders while the battery continues to fall. On the positive side, it only takes 40 seconds for the S Pen to return to Grade 9 to fully charge the pen.
It still writes!
Thanks to the fantastic Bluetooth features, the S Pen can still be used for notes, sketches and basic interaction with the Note 9 – even when the battery is empty.
Customize app control
The headliner feature of the Note 9 S-Pen is that it acts as a remote control for interacting with selected apps. For example, you can remove the pen, hold the button for a few seconds, launch the camera app, and take a photo with each press of the button. But the camera is not the only app the S Pen works with. Open Settings > Advanced Features > S Pen > S Pen to view the full list of apps and customize interactions with each app Remote .
See the current list of apps (or actions) that you can control with the S Pen:
- Hancom Office Editor Snapchat
Press and hold
To specify what happens when you hold down the S-key, tap Hold down the pencil key until . By default, this action launches the Camera app. However, you can choose a third-party app or S Pen features.
Alternatively, you can disable the feature along with the toggle switch at the top of the screen.
Single or Double Print Actions
As you can see when scrolling through the list of apps, next to an on / off switch, almost every entry has two customizable settings: single-click and double-click.
Select one of the options to select a different action if you want to change it. For example, in the Camera app, you can select a single button press to change the camera while double-clicking a photo.
Samsung will eventually open up the interactivity of the S Pen with other developers, which will undoubtedly lead to more interesting applications.
Unlock with S Pen
The S Pen can now unlock your Note 9 remotely, if you wish. You must enable the feature by clicking to Settings > Advanced Features > S Pen > Unlock with S Pen remote and select "Unlock with S pen remote control. "
If your phone is then locked and you are using the S Pen, say to give a presentation or control music from across the room, pressing the button once unlocks the phone.
Disable the S-Pen Remote
If you decide after long use of the remote features that you would rather go back as it was between you and the S Pen, you can disable the remote features.
This is easiest if you drag down the Quick Settings shadow and scroll through the tiles until you find and tap the S Pen Remote option. The other option is to revise the S Pen Remote settings page and use the on / off switch at the top of the screen.
However, if you decide to use the remote feature, you can easily re-enable it using the same procedure. An important note: If you disable the remote feature while the S Pen is no longer in Grade 9, you must put it back in your phone for a few seconds while a connection is being reestablished.
