Kiwi Design's battery socket makes sure the Home Mini works without a power outlet.

Googles Mini Mini Mini is the ideal starting point for a comfortable setup and a cost-effective way to extend the wizard by Google in every room. But the gadget has a fault: it is connected to a wall socket.

Here's what we like

  • Easy to use
  • Lasts about a day
  • Fits into the aesthetics of Home Mini

And What We Do Not Turn On

  • Does not turn on automatically [19659004] It takes a while for

to be charged. Kiwi Design fixes this bug with the Google Home Mini Battery Base. It's a long way from the only additional battery for smarthome speakers, but at just $ 30, this is one of the cheapest batteries available in three colors to match Google's own hardware.

Add the base to your Home Mini. I have a smart speaker and a home assistant who can move around wherever you have enough Wi-Fi – whether by the pool or in a room where you do not normally have a mini parked.

Make It Mobile

The gadget is a simple one: Basically, it's just a portable battery pack with a silicone case that holds the Home Mini in place, and a small MicroUSB cable carefully designed for the Home Mini Connection is used power. A second MicroUSB socket can be powered by the standard charger of the Home Mini, and that's a good thing as there is no charger in the charger. A manual on / off switch, four LED lights and a handy handle complete the hardware.

The installation of the base could not be easier. Simply plug the cable into the back of the Home Mini and then slide it into the silicone shell. The sides grab the Home Mini directly above the fabric of the speaker grille, making the combined device look like a softer, chunkier version of Google's own design. Even the four LED battery lights match the lights on the top of the speaker.

No Strings on Me

The battery gives the Home Mini a cordless usage of a day with a few hours of music playing thrown in. Of course, the battery life varies with the duration of use, but I can not imagine that the basic music playback or voice commands take less than 12 hours.

This is an excellent supplement. If you can carry the battery in your house, you'll wonder why Google did not have a battery pack in its original design. Carrying the Home Mini for guests or going from the bedroom to the kitchen without having to re-connect another device is very convenient.

A Few Disadvantages (19659034) The only joke is that you have to manually turn on the battery. It does not turn on automatically when you remove the USB charging cable, such as an uninterruptible power supply. That would have been a very welcome addition to the design, as you have to remember to press the power button or wait about thirty seconds for the Home Mini to turn on and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

I should point out that the Home Mini does not contain a Bluetooth connection. Therefore, you can not easily turn it into a portable boom box with just one battery. And since the Home Mini's charger only provides enough power to turn the speaker on and on, the battery socket will slowly charge – it takes more than 8 hours for the battery to run out.

A cheap, simple upgrade [19659034] Complementing one or two home minis in your home, the Kiwi Design Battery Socket is a useful impulse purchase. With a combined price of $ 80, it does not make much sense to buy both to get your own portable mini-roll – you'd better get something like the JBL Link 10 Home Mini is easy to recommend.
