16 victims were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, ATCEMS spokesman Capt. Darren Noak to reporters.
He described it as a “crane-crane incident on a construction site”. There was no structural breakdown, as the agency originally reported, he said.
Although his agency tweeted that rescue teams were trying to reach a crane operator, Noak said there was no rescue operation ongoing.
A crane operator is still on site, he said.
It is Noak’s understanding that all the injured people worked on the construction site, he said.
Eight ambulances responded to the scene and the incident is being investigated further, he said.

The collision occurred in the Mueller community of northeast Austin. In the vicinity there is a park, a children’s hospital, an apartment complex and a shopping center.
