Option 1: Use the music playback controls on iOS

If you have an iPhone, open Google Maps and tap the three-line icon in the upper-left corner to access the sidebar menu. Then, under Travel tap Settings, and then touch Navigation.

Now tap on "Music playback controls" and select the desired music streaming service. You can only choose between Apple Music and Spotify on an iPhone. Option 2: Use the music playback controls be on Android

On Google Maps, tap the three-line icon in the upper-left corner of the search bar. Then tap "Settings" in the menu that appears and go to "Navigation Settings".

Scroll down and select "Show media playback controls." Google Maps will ask you to select a music streaming service (Google Play Music or Spotify), if these apps are installed. After selecting one, click OK when asked if you want to connect a media app to Google Maps.

Playback control is now enabled. To view them in Google Maps, return to the map screen, enter directions, and click Start to begin navigation. To the right, you will see an icon for the music streaming service under the speaker icon (Google Play Music is shown below) .

Tap to display the playback control below. You can go back, pause the song, and jump forward to another title. If you have not played anything yet, you can tap the Play button to start a random track in Play Music, or play back where you left off at Spotify. This shows you the radio stations and playlists that you have in the past have listened to or recommended by the music streaming service for you. You can open the streaming service app by tapping the "Open" link at the top of page Browse .

If you exit the instructions, the music controls will be hidden in Google Maps, but the music will disappear. Continue playing and you can control it through the music streaming service app. To turn off music playback controls, go back to the Google Map settings and deselect "View media playback controls."

Option 3: Use Google Assistant to play music on iOS and Android

If you use ] You can also set a favorite music streaming service using Google Assistant. Then you can say in the directions "OK Google" and ask him to play something. The only difference between this option and the ones mentioned above is that there are no screen rendering controls other than the controls in the music service app.

On Android, however, Google Play Music is set to Google Maps Preferred service and Spotify are set as the preferred service of Google Assistant. You can use the wizard to play something. Then select the Spotify icon below the map rendering controls to instantly change the controls in Spotify. You can also reverse this and switch between controls.

You can also select another music streaming service, such as Pandora, but you can not directly access the playback controls in Maps.

With the Google Assistant open, tap the top right of your profile icon (on iOS) or the More tab, followed by Settings and Google Assistant (on Android). Next, tap on "Services" and then below "Music". From there you can link any available service, either YouTube Music, Google Play Music, Spotify, Pandora or Deezer. Apple Music is also available for iPhones.

When a service is connected and directions are retrieved in Google Maps, say "OK google, play [song, album, artist, etc. name]" and it will play. As mentioned above, if you're on Android and Spotify or Google Play Music is selected as an assistant, you can also access the controls in Maps.
