After months of beta testing, Siri Shortcuts has finally arrived on all iPhones supporting iOS 12. Anyone familiar with workflow knows how useful it is to set custom Siri commands for your favorite apps. Of course, your favorite apps need to be compatible with shortcuts to take advantage of the new feature.
The good news is that many apps have jumped on the shortcuts train. However, before you get any wild ideas, you know that every app decides how much integration it will have with shortcuts. Some offer many options, while others only offer one or two shortcuts for use with Siri. That's why we've put together some of the most popular apps there and pointed out exactly what you can do in shortcuts.
How to access these keyboard shortcuts
Before we begin, you should know that there are five ways to access the following shortcuts:
- From the lock screen
- On the Spotlight search page
- 19659006] Under Settings -> Siri & Search -> All Shortcuts
- In the Shortcuts app
- About the app that provided the link.
For applications that use the first two methods, shortcuts on the lock screen and in Spotlight search will be automatically available. For other apps you have to manually set the link under Settings -> Siri & Search -> All links. Then there are other apps that make their shortcuts available only through automations that you have set up with the new Shortcuts app. Finally, with apps like BuzzFeed, you can configure the shortcuts through the app itself.
App 1: Bear
Bear offers its users taking notes a number of options when it comes to shortcuts. If you're someone who often writes down ideas or makes organized notes in Bear, consider all the commands listed here:
- Create a new note
- Search in Bear
- Create Bear Note Content by Bear Receive
- Create Bear Note from URL
- Open Bear Note
- Add to Bear Note
- App Store Link: Bear (Free)
App 2: BuzzFeed
BuzzFeed not much for shortcuts, but for fans, it can provide some convenience.
The app allows you to add a shortcut to immediately show a buzzfeed show. If you want to see the latest episode of Tasty or BuzzFeed News, do not jump to the Shortcuts app. Instead, tap Add to Siri when viewing the page of a show and configure your link from there.
