Today Apple announced four new phones, and while the new iPhone Mini (and its brother the iPhone 1
Optimized design years in the making
The iPhone range has not seen a new design since the introduction of the iPhone X. The iPhone XR and 11 series largely followed the same design language, and at times they could be confused with one another.
However, with the iPhone 12 range that changes to some extent, although it is clearly still an iPhone. This time around, Apple used a stainless steel frame design that dates back to the iPhone 4 era, and made minor adjustments to the camera layout. It’s hard not to see the new flat edges right away.
The metal frame enables a new range of accessories called MagSafe. MagSafe accessories like wallets and wireless chargers are magnetically attached to the iPhone so you can find it in the right place every time. This is very helpful with wireless charging, where positioning makes a big difference when charging quickly.
Across the board, this is the first time iPhones can also access 5G networks. This shot gives you faster speeds on the go – if you still have 5G around you. If you’re a Verizon customer, you’ll be pleased to know that the iPhone series supports the company’s faster 5G ultra wide band service.
The latest iPhone series uses a new display material from Corning called Ceramic Shield. Apple promises that the drop performance is four times better thanks to the ceramic crystals buried in the glass. According to Apple, Ceramic Shield is harder than any other smartphone glass.
The main differences between the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are, of course, price and screen size, and to a lesser extent cameras. The iPhone 12 Pro hits the scales at $ 999 with its 6.1-inch OLED display, while the Pro Max jumps to $ 1,099 and a 6.7-inch display. As always, you can spend more on storage with a choice from 128GB to 512GB.
The best iPhone cameras yet
If you are looking for the best iPhone cameras, you have to make the move to the iPhone Pro series. While the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini work with a system with two lenses, the iPhone Pro series has a triple array system.
That means you can switch between wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle or telephoto lenses. The iPhone 12 Pro comes with 12-megapixel wide-angle, telephoto and ultra-wide-angle camera lenses. The iPhone 12 Pro Max, however, offers slightly better cameras with larger sensors and more optical zoom.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max also features sensor-shift image stabilization technology that stabilizes the sensor instead of the heavy lens. This results in clearer photos as 5,000 micro adjustments can be made per second.
Apple iPhone Pro phones also get access to the company’s new Apple ProRaw format, which combines Apple’s computer photography with the control of the raw format. In theory, this should give you better looking photos upfront, but keep the ability to make changes later that you get with RAW.
When you upgrade to Apple iPhone Pro, you’ll also get HDR video footage for the first time. It is also the first smartphone camera to record in Dolby Vision HDR, even when recording 4K video at 60 frames per second. In addition, the night mode comes to new lenses. You can now use it with the ultra-wide angle lens and the front-facing lens for more dynamic shots and better portraits, even when the lighting isn’t ideal. And if you have a tripod handy, you can use the time-lapse in night mode.
Apple iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max also accommodate a LiDAR scanner. The scanner can completely scan a room, subject, or almost anything else for a better 3D view of the world. This not only helps augmented reality apps, but also with photos and videos in poor lighting conditions.
The pre-order time is coming
You can pre-order the iPhone 12 Pro on October 16, and it will be released on October 23. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is available for pre-order on November 5th and released on November 23rd.
