Always updated list of iOS app URL scheme names «iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

If you've customized your app icons or used shortcuts (previously called workflows), you probably know how important URL schema names are. Almost all iOS apps have one of these names, and you need to know them if you want to add custom icons to your home screen or create a shortcuts workflow that opens an app on your iPhone.

Locating the URL schema name, also known as the URI scheme, is not easy for a particular app. First, you need to download the IPA file for the app. This is a tricky task as updating iTunes 12.7 removes iOS apps from it. Finally, if you've found the IPA, you'll need to convert it to a zip file, view the contents of the app package, and then search for the specific PLIST file that contains the URL Schemas. It is much work.

This example shows the URL Schemas for VSCO in one of its PLIST files.

The easiest way to download IPA files is now Use the Apple Configurator 2. After logging in and connecting your iPhone, you can view and update the apps you need. Any apps that you update in this way are temporarily stored in an Apple Config folder in the Group Containers folder in your user library. However, it is still a lot of work and requires that the app you need have an update available that you can apply.

If you just want to create a custom app icon or open the Netflix app through a workflow you're working on, we'll try to make things as easy as possible by listing all the URL schema names for List apps that we just know. When we come across them, we will include not only the "open" schemas, but also some URL schemes with deep links to jump to specific tasks in an app.

The list below may seem small, considering that there are over 2 million apps in the App Store are still in the works, and we will continue to add more while adding more URL schemes for popular apps and games on the iPhone discover.

URL Schemes for Popular iOS Apps and Services

Any The following types without anything after: // are just schemas to open the apps, while those with information after: // serve Execute deep link-specific actions within the apps. Although all of the following elements contain: // in them, most can only be used with: instead of the // symbols.

Note that developers can change the URL schemes for their apps at any time. Apple has used certain iOS services, eg. For example, links to certain settings that worked before iOS 11. You can probably even guess some URL schemes, as many use only the name of their app as a schema name. Trial and error!

Anything that starts with fb *: // below are deep links from Facebook that should work, regardless of whether you have Facebook installed on your device or not. Since they do not always work as expected we only included them in the list below if they did not have a different URL schema name. Otherwise, fb *: // schemas are omitted.

If you know the URL Schema name or action for an app that is not listed here, please let us know. We encourage the support of our community to help us build this list!

It's also worth noting that since iOS 9.2, Apple has been trying to steal developers of URL schemes to favor universal links, but URL schemes are far from dead. And since Apple made Workflow 12 its own shortcuts app that starts with iOS 12, an app that even has its own schema, there's no reason to believe that URL schemes will disappear soon.
