Apple Music Replay lets you feel like being born again.

Jason Cipriani / CNET

When I look back at the music I heard last year, I always get a glimpse and trigger memories, good and bad. I like to think of it as a music recording of another past year. But as a subscriber to Apple Music I had to rely on third-party apps to give me a year-long review of which songs I've heard the most.

Not this year. Apple Music now offers replay playlists that let you feel like you have everything as you play through the playlists. The playlist is not automatically created, but it only takes a few seconds for you to request Apple Music and add it to your account .

I listen to music all day, and there are days when I'm in the rut listening to the same album or artist repeating it. Having a playlist of the top 1

00 songs I've listened to in the past year is an entertaining way to break my norm while listening to something I enjoy. And if you're the type to throw a killer New Year's Eve party, you can spare yourself the hassle of DJing – just get your replay for 2019.

How to Get Your Replay Playlists

The quickest way to get your replay playlist is to visit the special Apple website. You can visit it from any device, it does not necessarily have to be your iPhone, iPad or Macbook. Alternatively, open the Music app on your Apple device, go to Browse and tap the play tile.

Click or tap Get Your Replay Mix and sign in with your Apple ID. A few seconds later, the website will display your playlist for 2019. Scroll through the list to see the 100 best songs you've heard this year, including the frequency with which they were played during that time.

Apple also adds other statistics, such as For example, the total number of hours you've listened to music, the number of performers (along with your top 5 albums), and the number of different albums (also with a top 10 list). ,

But this is where magic really happens

If you scroll down to the bottom of your playlist, you'll notice that Apple Music has also created playlists for each year you subscribe to Apple Music.

Tap the Add button next to each playlist you want to add to your Apple Music account.

For me, this means that I now have playlists for 2015 to 2019 of the top music I've heard this year. It was crazy to look again at how much (or how little) has changed, which I spend most of my time listening to.

Mike Shinoda's album Post Traumatic is (and rightly) a staple for me in 2018 and 2019. When I first signed up for Apple Music in 2015, and my kids were much younger, I got the soundtrack The Descendants more than I would like to admit. I forgot everything about this movie until I saw the soundtrack in my playlist.

I feel so conspicuous when I show my playlists from years ago.

Last year, Spotify did something similar for its users, and one has to imagine that they will do it again as we approach the end of the year.

If you're new to Apple Music or just want to make sure you're getting the most out of it, read these tips and tricks. Did you know that you can create custom radio stations in Apple Music? Apple recently stopped iTunes on Mac and replaced it with a dedicated music app that works just like the iOS version, and let's be honest – it was for the better.
