Joseph R. Biden Jr. is expected to report a record-breaking fundraiser in August that raised more than $ 300 million between his campaign and joint committees with the Democratic Party, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The sum would destroy monthly records as small donors have put money in Mr. Biden’s coffers, especially since the selection of Senator Kamala Harris as his fellow campaigner and major contributor from Silicon Valley to Wall Street gave checks that can be so big like $ 721,300.
As a sign of the financial dynamism behind the Democrats, ActBlue, the main location that processes donations to the party, reported the second-largest fundraising day in its history on Monday, at more than $ 35 million. According to another person familiar with the numbers, much of Mr. Biden̵
The folks familiar with Mr. Biden’s fundraising did not know the exact final figure for the month of August or how much more than $ 300 million it would be.
The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Any amount over $ 300 million would exceed the previous monthly shipments of the candidates from both parties. For example, it’s more than what Donald J. Trump ($ 90 million) and Hillary Clinton ($ 143 million) raised together in August 2016 – combined.
Mr Biden’s total exceeds the $ 193 million monthly record set by Barack Obama in September 2008, despite no formal record.
In July, President Trump and the Republican National Committee topped Mr Biden and the Democrats by $ 165 million to $ 140 million. Mr Trump joined the party in August with more than $ 300 million in the bank; According to the campaigns, Mr Biden was $ 294 million.
The Trump campaign did not disclose its August donation total, but did announce that it raised $ 76 million during its four-day session last week, just over the $ 70 million the Biden campaign made had collected during their meeting a week earlier.
As a sign of just how concise the former Vice President’s campaign is, Mr Biden reserved a two-minute national-level commercial on the final night of the Republican Convention that stands out from Mr Trump.
Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, scoffed at the use of funds.
“The Biden campaign would have been smarter if it had been set on fire and kept warm on a cold winter night,” he said in an interview before the full number of Biden donations was known. “They literally just threw it away.”
The Biden campaign had previously announced that it would raise $ 48 million in the first 48 hours after Ms. Harris was named Vice President of Mr. Biden. Together with the Democratic Convention, those two periods add up to nearly $ 120 million raised in just six days.
ActBlue has processed at least $ 11 million in donations every day since Ms. Harris was selected three weeks ago. In the past 41 days, the site had processed that much only twice in one day.
According to Party officials, a very large portion of the donations made immediately after Ms. Harris was selected came organically from online donors: $ 39 million of the $ 48 million.
Large donors have also had an impact. During the general election, donation limits are far higher as Mr Biden and Mr Trump collect contributions in joint funds with the national and state parties and exceed half a million dollars.
Officials with the Democratic National Committee said it broke its record for online fundraisers three times in one day in the past two weeks: first on the last night of the Democratic Convention and then on the last two days of August.
The record had previously held for more than 2,500 days.
