Black Widow footage featured at Comic-Con 2019
Comic-Con 2019 attendees saw shots of an epic battle scene between Scarlett Johansson and fellow actor Florence Pugh as the character Yelena Belova. The two were described as "sisters".
The SDCC footage contains previous Romanoff footage from Marvel films such as Iron Man 2, Age of Ultron, Civil War and Endgame.
Then the video changes to a shot of Budapest, in which Romanoff draws her gun on a door of a residential building. Romanoff searches each room until she hears a Russian-accented woman say, "I know you're out there." It is Belova and her weapon is also drawn.
The two have a dejected, sluggish fight in different rooms of the apartment. Belova's moves are similar to those of Romanoff, which could mean that they were previously coached by the same person. The fight ends with the characters gagging each other on the floor with a shower curtain.
The SDCC footage also includes a motorcycle hunt; Romanoff and Belova drink something where Romanoff calls them "sister". and Romanoff said, "I have a very special ability" and wanted to delete the red from their general ledger. Interestingly, there are a few attitudes of other women in costumes like Black Widows, which implies that other Russian agents could replace them at any moment.
Who is the main villain, Taskmaster?
Other SDCC footage shows Romanoff's car being blown up by the evil Taskmaster. They fight and Romanoff realizes that he can mirror all their fighting movements – much like Belova in the previous fight. Could Belova be a secret taskmaster, or is there more in this mysterious villain?
The supervillain appeared for the first time in 1980 in the comic series The Avengers. His superpowers include the ability to imitate his opponent's physical moves by simply seeing them.
The taskmaster wears a hood over his head and wears a protective shield. In the comics, Taskmaster also taught criminals how to improve their combat skills.
Andy Park, Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios, released the first concept graphic for the film on July 22 on Instagram, in which Black Widow shows the fight against Taskmaster.
Who is the Red Guard?
Strange Things and Hellboy Starwas cast as Alexei Shostakov, also known as the Red Guard.
The Red Guard appeared for the first time in the comics in the Avengers # 43. The comics have Shostakov as a longtime KGB agent, but it is still unclear whether his character will be an enemy or an ally of Romanoff.
Who makes the movie?
Cate Shortland is the first director to hire Marvel to shoot a full-length live action film single-handedly. Shortland is best known for her women-run films Lore and Berlin Syndrome.
The script was written by scriptwriter and producer Jac Schaeffer, best known for her other female-run superhero movie, Captain Marvel.
