Brad Parscale, Trump’s former campaign manager, was hospitalized after a reported suicide attempt

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Sgt. DeAnna Greenlaw, a Fort Lauderdale police officer, responded to Parscale’s apartment “about an armed man who attempted suicide.” Officials later identified him to CNN as Bradley Parscale and said his wife had called the police.

“When the officers arrived on the scene, they contacted the armed subject’s wife, who pointed out that her husband was armed and had access to multiple firearms in the residence and threatened to harm himself,” Greenlaw told CNN in an explanation. The officers found that the only person in the house was the adult male.

According to Greenlaw, officers contacted Parscale, “developed a rapport and negotiated safely that he should leave the house. The man was arrested without injury and taken to Broward Health Medical Center for a Baker Act.”

Fort Lauderdale police chief Karen Dietrich told CNN there was concern that Parscale could harm himself and his wife said there were guns in the house. The SWAT team reacted and after a short time Parscale surrendered to the police, said Dietrich.

“He came out and we brought him some help,” said Dietrich.

Parscale was demoted from his position this summer following Trump’s rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Although he held a senior position in the campaign, he was rarely seen at headquarters after his demotion.

Tim Murtaugh, communications manager for the Trump campaign, told CNN in a statement: “Brad Parscale is a member of our family and we all love him. We are ready to support him and his family in any way we can.”

The Baker Act is a law in Florida that allows families to provide emergency psychiatric services and temporary incarceration for people who are compromised by mental illness, according to the University of Florida Health.

Parscale hasn’t seen much in the campaign office since its demotion, a campaign source told CNN’s Jim Acosta. The day he was downgraded, he cleaned up his office and left. He was in the office about 10 days ago, the source said.

Parscale has been hailed by the president and his allies as a digital guru who helped secure Trump’s first election effort. He worked for the Trump family years before Trump launched a presidential bid and took over the campaign’s data analytics team in June 2016.

After Trump won, Parscale worked with America First Policies, a political organization for Trump, and became campaign manager in February 2018.
