Change the default font in PowerPoint

  PowerPoint Logo

PowerPoint provides several ways to change the default font of a presentation. You can set a default font for new text boxes, find and replace specific fonts in the presentation, or change the default heading and body font for future use. Here's how.

Changing the Default Font in Text Boxes

PowerPoint provides a large library of various topics, and each topic has its own set of standard fonts. If you like the design of the theme but are not very happy with the font, you can change it. The easiest way to accomplish this is with the PowerPoint Slide Master.

Slide masters control the overall appearance of the presentation, Microsoft says. These include colors, background, effects and especially fonts. To access the slide master, open PowerPoint, go to the View tab, and then click the Slide Master button.

You will notice that a copy of each available slide template appears in the left pane. Select the first slide and on the Slide Master tab, click the Fonts button.

 Font options in Slide Master view

A drop-down menu appears. Here is an extensive list of pre-defined headings and text pairs. Selecting one of these options will change the text for the entire presentation. Alternatively, you can choose Customize Fonts from the bottom of the menu to choose your own fonts.

 Customize Fonts

The Create New Theme Fonts window will now be displayed. Here you can choose the font style for the headline and the text individually. On the right you can see a preview of the text. When you're done, give your new theme a name and choose "Save."

Changing the font using the Replace Fonts command

PowerPoint also has a handy feature that lets you find and replace different fonts in your presentation. In the Edit group of the Home tab, select the arrow next to Replace.

 Option to replace the font in the editing group

A drop-down menu appears. Choose "Replace Fonts" here.

 Replace Fonts

The Replace Fonts window appears. Select the font you want to replace, and then select the font you want to replace. When you're done, choose "Replace."

 Select Fonts to Find and Replace from "width =" 313 "height =" 124 "src =" /pagespeed_static/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif "onload =" pagespeed.lazyLoadImages. loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this); "onerror =" this.onerror = null; pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this);

Changing the Default Font for Text Boxes

Another function changes the default font for text boxes. Go to the "Insert" tab and click on the "Text field" button.

 Select the text box option "width =" 294 "height =" 127 "src =" /pagespeed_static / 1. JiBnMqyl6S.gif "onload =" pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this); "onerror =" this.onerror = null; pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this); Drag the cursor to the desired size. Enter the text in your text box.

 Draw text box GIF "width =" 328 "height =" 198 "src =" /pagespeed_static/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif "onload =" pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this); "onerror =" this.onerror = null; pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this);

If your text has been entered, apply the format to this text that you want to set as default. These include font style, font size and font color. Once you have customized the text to your liking, right-click on the text field. In the menu that appears, choose Set As Default Text Box.

 Set as default text box "width =" 177 "height =" 456 "src =" /pagespeed_static/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif "onload =" pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this); "onerror =" this. onerror = zero; pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon (this);

The next time you insert a text box, it will be used.

Save your default font in a template.

If you want to save your settings as a template for future use, go to the File tab and choose Save As.
