Chromebook 101: How to Find Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts have always been a favorite of writers, programmers, and other fast computer users who want to see as much text as possible on screen without taking their hands off the keyboards. Chromebooks shortcuts can also help new users cope with some differences between the design of the Chromebook and other systems such as Macs and Windows PCs.

For example, instead of the usual caps lock key Most keyboards have a Chromebook start button that invokes the starter (equivalent to the Mac launch pad or the Windows Start menu). If you want to re-enable the Caps Lock key, you can use the Alt + Starter shortcut to turn the starter into a Caps Lock key or combine the Starter and Backspace keys to delete them.

There are some of these useful shortcuts that you do not necessarily have to memorize. Just use the following keyboard shortcut:

Ctrl + Alt + /

This will open a window containing all the shortcuts you can use, divided into categories. There is also a search window in which you can, for example, search for "Close" and thus close the current tab or window with the keyboard.

One suggestion: Start by looking for a keyboard shortcut with a single search term. When I entered the word "close", I got the answers I needed. When I entered the phrase "close tab", nothing was displayed because the term used in the shortcuts list is "close current tab".
