Comparison of the Best International Data Charts of All Major US Carrier Smartphones :: Gadget Hacks

Traveling abroad can be tedious. There can be a lot between the flight, the hotels, the food and the language barriers. There is a tool that can help you ̵

1; your smartphone. Fortunately, you no longer have to switch your mobile service provider today to keep using your phone.

For a seamless experience, you need an international plan to use your phone in another country. This differs from your usual plan because it limits data usage and bills you for every call or text you send or receive. In the past, it was a mistake to use your US mobile service provider overseas because the charges were too high, but things have changed. While none of the five major airlines offer a plan comparable to the one you enjoy at home, it is at least affordable and you can maintain the numerous features of your phone without damaging the bank.

Verizon

Unlimited Plans

If you are a Verizon customer who travels to Mexico or Canada, the most cost effective option is one of his Unlimited Plans. Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited and Above Unlimited offer unlimited call, text and 2G data in Mexico and Canada. There is also 4G data available but limited to 0.5GB per day.

If you have one of these plans for your regular service, the service is in Mexico and Canada and there are no data surpluses. Instead, Verizon switches to 2G data when you exceed the 0.5GB limit abroad. Verizon recommends using a 4G World best service device, although other phones should work. Keep in mind that no more than 50% of your usage (calls, text or data) can be in any country within a two-month period.

TravelPass (Mexico and Canada)

If you do not have an unlimited plan, you can still use your Verizon service in Mexico and Canada via the TravelPass. This will be added to your existing plan. You can make calls, send text, and use data while in both North American countries. For Mexico and Canada, a daily fee of $ 5 will be charged. Verizon recommends that you use a 4G World Device, but it is possible that phones not included in this list will work in both these countries.

  • Price: $ 5 per day per line
  • Included Countries: 2 (Mexico and Canada)
  • Duration: 24 hours
  • 4G-LTE data: 0.5 GB per line per day (if available, otherwise 3G)

Before every line you should add the TravelPass option to your trip, which you can read online, via texts or through the My Verizon app can perform. The first time you turn on your phone in a TravelPass supported country, a welcome test message will be displayed. When you make a call, send text, or use data (including background data) for the first time, your 24-hour start. Within two hours of starting the TravelPass, Verizon will send you a new SMS at the time the TravelPass ends.

To stop the TravelPass, simply stop using data, send or receive text messages, or make or receive calls. Ideally, turn on flight mode to avoid recalculation because the phone automatically runs background data when connected. Alternatively, you can simply return to the US and continue to use the phone normally (it's the international service you need to avoid if you want to stop loading). However, if you wish another day, continue using your phone abroad and the process will start over.

TravelPass (International)

If you're traveling to another continent, you'll need a different version of TravelPass. This includes support for over 185 countries, but prices are slightly higher. This plan also requires a 4G World Device.

  • Price: $ 10 per day per line (or 5 days for free with Above Unlimited Plan)
  • Included Countries: over 185
  • Term: 24 Hours
  • 4G LTE data: 0.5 GB per line per day (if available, otherwise 3G)

You can either use the TravelPass on the Verizon website, per Add text or through the My Verizon app. After you have reached your destination, Verizon greets you with a new text. After the first phone call, sending the first text, or using data (including background data), your 24 hours will begin. Within two hours after the start of a TravelPass, Verizon will inform you by SMS about the expiry date of the TravelPass. If you stop using your phone until then, your TravelPass will be terminated and no additional costs will be charged.

However, with smartphones using background data, this is the best way to avoid charging for a second while you're still standing abroad. Airplane mode should be turned on abroad. If you wish to use the TravelPass for an additional day (and pay the additional $ 10 per line), then you will not use your phone after the time has expired and the process will be repeated. If you return to the US, you will be able to continue using your phone as normal, and you will not be charged any additional days for TravelPass.

Monthly International Itinerary

If you intend to travel for a longer period or plan To do more international travel, the monthly International Travel Plan is another option. The cheaper plan is $ 70. For this price you will receive a monthly fee for minutes, SMS and data that can be used in one of over 185 supported countries.

    Pay as You Go

For non-unlimited Verizon customers visiting a country that is not supported by Verizon TravelPass: You can not add TravelPass or Monthly International Travel to your plan, or your in-country allowance expires if You use the TravelPass. There is no sign-up. As long as you have an LTE/GSM capable phone, it is already enabled unless you have a different international roaming offer enabled. You also get free 20 voice minutes to Cuba. After these expire, calls can be made at $0.70 per minute.

    Data Pass

If you want to enjoy high-speed 4G LTE data, you need to get a data pass. Data passes can be purchased for one day or the week, and they provide you unlimited 4G LTE data during the duration. Passes should be purchased in advance, as you may not be able to once you are in the country. However, be warned that there is an overage cost. Once the time expires, you will not return to 2G data. Instead, you will use 3G data and any data consumed will cost you $0.03 per MB.

These passes are added to Sprint Global Roaming, so you still will enjoy free texts and $0.25 per minute voice calls.
