Apple Maps has had a rocky history since its inception, with limited features and questionable data, earning it a reputation as a lesser alternative to Google Maps. Since then, Apple has been working to fill this gap, and iOS 13 introduces collections that allow you to create groups of locations on your iPhone that you can quickly access and share with others.
Collections can come handy for travel planning. For example, you can create a list of places to visit and then quickly view and get directions. Alternatively, you can create a collection and share it with friends who visit you and ask for places to see. If you just want to create a list of memorable places you've visited, you can also create collections.
: Create a new collection
When you open the Maps app, a search bar appears and your favorites list appears at the bottom of the screen. It is located on the left side when in landscape orientation. Your collection list is right under the favorites. Swipe up to see them.
In this case, no existing collections are displayed when the device is first using collections. However, some may appear if you created them on another device that uses the same Apple ID. To create a new collection, tap the New Collection button, give the group a name, and tap the Create button in the upper-right corner. Now you can fill your collection.
After You If you have created three or more collections, the top right corner of Section Collections the Show All button. You'll need to tap on it, then tap the plus sign (+) in the lower right corner to create new collections.
There are several ways to add new locations to a collection. You can either add a location from the collection itself or, if you are already viewing a site, choose to which collection that location should be added.
Tap the collection first You want to add a location. If the collection does not yet contain any locations, the "+ Add a place" button appears there. Otherwise, you can scroll up to see a toolbar at the bottom of the map and tap the plus sign (+) from there. (If you are in landscape view, the toolbar should already be displayed.)
Tapping the button opens a search box where you can search for locations and view recently viewed locations. After searching, tap anywhere to add it to your collection.
You can also add sites to your collections just show. After finding a location, swipe up on the location information card. Among the available user pictures, the "Add to" button is displayed. Tap it and then add it to an existing collection or create a new collection to add it to.
You can also add your current location to a collection. To do so, tap on the arrow with the position arrow in the upper right corner to center the map on your coordinates. Then tap the blue dot on the map that shows your location and select the "Mark My Location" button. Like places you've searched for, the highlighted area also has an Add To button that lets you add your current location to a collection.
You can create sites as needed Remove from a collection or even add to other collections. First, select the group you want to edit.
To remove a single item, slide your finger to the left to display the Remove button. Tap it and the location will be removed from the collection. There are also options for "Edit Name" and "Share" here.
Alternatively, you can swipe long over the location to delete it automatically. You can also swipe up to display the bottom toolbar in the full map view, and then click the Edit button at the bottom left. This allows you to select multiple objects at once and either remove them from the collection using "Delete" or add them to "Add To".
You can also tap the camera icon above the image of the collection to get a custom image of Upload photos that better fit your list.
Sharing a collection can sometimes be useful, especially if you're traveling to different locations with a group. To share a collection, select it, scroll up to display the bottom toolbar, and then press the sharing icon. You can send a collection using standard iOS methods such as AirDrop, Messages, and Mail.
Collections are not a groundbreaking feature, but they can help. Keep the maps a little more organized and simplify planning a trip or sharing your favorite places with friends.
