Deleting iPhone apps is confusing in iOS 14

There are several ways to delete an app. To start with, you can long press an app icon until a pop-up menu appears. Depending on the app, the menu might contain actions that you can take. For example, the Mail app has a shortcut to create a new email. In addition to app-specific actions, iOS 14 includes two system options: Remove app and Edit home screen.

Alternatively, you can press and hold the app symbol for a few more seconds until all app symbols start dancing.

Whether you choose Remove app If you tap the new “-” sign on the app icon in the pop-up menu while in wiggle mode, you’ll see a brand new prompt: you’re asked if you want to delete the app or move the app library.

Deleting the app will remove all data from your phone, freeing up valuable storage space. Moving it to your app library just removes the app icon from your home screen. Delete apps that are in your app library

You don’t have to move an app from the app library to your home screen to delete it from your phone. In fact, there are several ways to delete an app from the app library.

The first option is to tap the search bar at the top of your app library and find the app you want to remove, or scroll down until you find it. Long press the app icon until a pop-up menu appears, then select Delete the app.

The other option is to find the app in its categorical folder, long-press it, and then select Delete the app from the popup. You can then resume deleting apps by tapping the “X” after triggering the wiggle mode. Tap Done or exit the folder when you’re done.
