Florida government critic Ron DeSantis’ lifting of restaurant capacity restrictions despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic “doesn’t know Florida,” the Republican told The Ingraham Angle on Friday evening.
One such critic, CNN chief correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, said earlier Friday that America is “nowhere near contained,” described part of DeSantis’ order to ban local governments from imposing fines for not wearing face masks in public as unthinkable.
“These are all wrong decisions in actually trying to get this pandemic under control,” Gupta claimed.

“We never closed in the summer,” he said, and later added, “We were open. The final piece of the puzzle was that restaurant capacity was capped at 50%. So that was today’s announcement that this landed a lot. Lots of these people had a very, very difficult time in this industry.
DeSantis told host Laura Ingraham that the pandemic had taught restaurateurs how to keep customers and employees safe and effective, and promised that lifting these restrictions would be good for businesses and customers alike.

“We need to have a situation where individuals can make decisions about what makes sense for them,” said the governor. “If it’s something you don’t like to do, no one will make you do it. But I think people need to be free to choose.”
