Unless you've completely disconnected, you're probably aware that the Disney Plus streaming video service was launched this week. And if you're on this site, you'll probably overlook the new Star Wars series The Mandalorian .
But did you know that the service also has a live action remake of? animated classic Lady and the Tramp ? If not, Disney has ordered a portion of Augmented Reality via Snapchat to inform you and encourage you to sign up for the service.
On Thursday, the media giant sponsored an AR lens that overlays images of the titular figures and the notorious persons Teller Spaghetti on a checkered tablecloth. Users are asked to open their mouths, and when they do, a virtual chef's hat falls on their heads. The entire experience is also illuminated with virtual light from above.
Unfortunately, the AR experiences do not show that Canines share this spaghetti plate as in this cult scene (you must subscribe to Disney Plus to see this).
Fortunately, Disney has made signing up for subscription to Snapchat's Shoppable AR e-commerce platform even easier. After the camera is stolen, users can tap the Sign In button to visit the Disney Plus website.
Disney is no stranger to Snapchat's AR tools, having previously sponsored AR effects for Incredibles 2 and Avengers: Infinity War . Through a brand partnership with Levi's, Disney soon became familiar with Shoppable AR. However, the company is not married to Snapchat AR, as it has also delivered AR experiences about Magic Leap, Lenovo, Facebook, Samsung, Google Playground and YouTube among others.
The launch of Disney Plus, however, may be the company's biggest venture this year as it seeks to leverage the extensive content library it has assembled from various acquisitions over the past decade or more. And that's saying a lot in the year Disney brought us Avengers: Endgame, the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge amusement parks, and completed the purchase of 20th Century Fox. As the mainstream of AR, it speaks for itself Company has decided to implement this immersive promotion through Snapchat on every other platform.
