Five weeks after election day, two days after the first presidential candidate debates, and moments after the New York Times published bomb revelations about Donald Trump’s taxes, the US president targeted his Democratic opponent Joe Biden with a series of wild and unproven targets .
In an unfocused White House briefing, the president sold baseless allegations, including the fact that his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, used “performance-enhancing drugs”
Trump compared Biden’s performance in the main debates, including the fact that he was stronger in some debates than others: “People say he used performance-enhancing drugs. Lots of people said that, “Trump claimed without evidence. When challenged, Trump urged reporters to “look it up” to see who said it. .
“I will request a drug test from Sleepy Joe Biden before or after the debate on Tuesday evening,” Trump wrote later on Twitter.
I’ll be asking for a drug test from Sleepy Joe Biden before or after the Tuesday night debate. Of course, I’ll agree to take one too. His debates were, to say the least, UNEVEN record breaking. Only drugs could have caused this discrepancy ???

The president also accused Biden’s son Hunter of corruption and speculated about a non-existent democratic policy of unsupervised, open borders. In a familiar refrain, he painted a dystopian vision of life under a democratic government.
“You will destroy the American dream. You will destroy America … your private right to own a firearm will be completely eliminated, your guns will be confiscated, your ability to live by your religious beliefs will be destroyed, you will abolish America’s borders and illegal aliens who destroy provide medical care for our health system. “
Trump denounced criticism of his Supreme Court election – Catholic Judge Amy Coney Barrett – as a “fight against Catholicism”, arguing that he was sticking to his “obligation as President” by nominating her to the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg to fill vacant seat. He predicted Barrett’s nomination “will go quickly”.
Trump also revisited his favorite tropes: the “Lamestream media”; the mistakes of Obamacare; and allegations of widespread electoral fraud.
There were few facts to support his claims.
The recent New York Times revelation that Trump paid only $ 750 in taxes in the year he won the presidency and no taxes in 10 of the last 15 years because he lost more money than he made , was rejected: “It is false news. Totally fake news. Made up, ”said Trump.
Trump reportedly did little to officially prepare the debate against Biden this week, despite saying on Sunday that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his former 2016 main rival Chris Christie had been drafted to help him.
“We had a little preparation for a debate before we came here,” Trump said as Christie and Giuliani watched from the press conference room. “What I do every day is prepare the debate.”
In contrast, Biden has spent months refining his lines of attack and preparing to aggressively refute Trump’s attacks on him.
Biden’s campaign has held mock debates in which Bob Bauer, a senior Biden adviser and former White House General Counsel, played the role of Trump, a source with direct knowledge of the preparations disclosed to AP on condition of anonymity.
Historically, early debates are by far the most impactful, and Tuesday night in swing state Ohio could be critical in determining Trump’s chances of regaining Biden’s tenaciously consistent lead in the polls.
The 90-minute event, hosted by Fox News host Chris Wallace, is the first of three planned presidential debates.
Vice President Mike Pence and California Senator Kamala Harris, Biden’s deputy, will debate in October.
