Early Prime Day 2020 Offer: Buy the Eero 6 mesh router, get a free Echo Dot and free Philips Hue bulbs

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to make sure you are getting the best deal.

Amazon announced just last week two brand new Eero mesh routers, the Eero 6 and the Eero Pro 6. As the names suggest, each has full support for Wi-Fi 6as well as a ZigBee hub for connecting to smart lights and smart locks. And during Prime Day doesn’t officially begin until October 1

3thPre-order offers for both new Eero 6 systems are already live.

In both cases, the total prices for the systems remain the same, but Amazon is putting in some free devices to sweeten the pot.

The cost of a three-part Eero 6 system with a router and two satellite devices with extended range is $ 279. This system will only go on sale in early November. However, if you’re ready to pre-order, currently you can pair it with a free Echo Dot and two free Philips Hue bulbs. Total cost: still $ 279 which is a damn good deal.

Thanks to this new ZigBee hub in the Eero router, you can couple these Hue lamps directly to your home network and to Alexa, where the free Echo Dot comes into play. From there, you can turn the lights on and off, set the brightness and color temperature, or trigger your favorite intelligent light scenes with a quick voice command to Amazon’s assistant.

A couple of things to consider. First, while this offer does get you the new Wi-Fi 6 version of Eero’s mesh router, the new spherical design doesn’t get you the latest Echo Dot. Instead, you get the previous puck-shaped model from 2018. No problem.

Second, the two Hue lamps are Hue White Ambiance LEDs. This means that they can change the color temperatures in the white light spectrum, with the hues ranging from a yellowish, candle-like sheen to hotter, bluish-white daylight tones. However, you cannot change the colors in the RGB spectrum – no green, blue, pink, purple, red or the like. That’s a bit stupid, but at least the new Eero routers manage that you don’t need a Hue bridge if you just want to control it via the Alexa app.

If you’d rather upgrade to the fancier Eero Pro 6 system, also coming out in November, you can currently find the $ 599 bundled pack of 3 on Amazon with a free Fire TV Cube that usually goes for $ 120 Dollar is being sold. This router can achieve faster top speeds than the regular Eero 6 listed above, and the tri-band design has an additional 5 GHz band that you can use for system transfers between routers and extenders. This is the best approach to high-end mesh networking, as our tests repeatedly show. Adding a free Fire TV cube also helps bring the price down.
