Enable fall detection and set up emergency contacts on the Apple Watch

While the Apple Watch is a great smartwatch, it can also save your life . Apple has included a fall detection feature in the wearable that allows you to call 911 and notify your emergency contacts if you're involved in an accident. To set everything up:

Enable fall detection

When setting up your Apple Watch for the first time, you should be asked if you want to enable fall detection and rescue. If you did not enable (or want to make sure) the feature, first open the Watch app on your iPhone.

If you can not find the app on your iPhone, swipe it on your screen Use Apple's home screen and Spotlight search to search for "Watch."

Scroll down the My Watch tab and select Emergency SOS.

Tap the button next to "Lanyard Detection." This alerts 911 and your emergency contacts that you may have been injured and did not respond to an alert from the Apple Watch.

Alternatively, you can turn on fall detection from your Apple Watch. To do this, click on the Digital Crown> Settings (gear icon)> SOS> Fall detection application. Activate this option if you have not already done so.

Setting up emergency contacts

In order to inform your loved ones about a possible accident, you must set up emergency contacts. You can do this through the Health app on your iPhone.

If you can not find the app on your phone, swipe down on the iPhone home screen and search for "health" with the Spotlight search.

Then tap your avatar in the upper-right corner of the app.

Scroll down and select the "Medical ID" option.

The Medical ID menu lists all the emergency information you have provided about yourself. To add a new emergency contact, tap the Edit button in the top right corner.

Scroll to the "Emergency Contacts" section and select "+ Add an Emergency Contact". You can also select the red "-" icons next to the other emergency contacts to remove them.

In your phonebook, select the phone number you want to list for emergency contact. Next, select the relationship of the contact with you. In this way, first responders can identify the next of kin.

After you add the emergency contact, tap Done.

Your emergency contacts are now saved. If you are dropped and 911 is called, your emergency contacts will be contacted as well as a GPS location so they can be found.
