Everything You Need to Know About the 2020 Motorola RAZR Smartphones :: Gadget Hacks

If you had a phone in 2004, chances are it was a Motorola RAZR. The cult mobile is the tenth largest of all time and marks the culmination of the flip phone era. After the technology has caught up, it brings Lenovo (the parent company of Motorola) back on a large scale.

Lenovo started working on the phone four years ago and initially had no plans to redevelop the Motorola RAZR. But as the technology improved, they saw an opportunity to enter the market and bring back a style that still had many wishes. The result is a phone that combines the old with the new. Get everything you'd expect from a 2020 smartphone: OLED panel, USB-C, fast charging, and more. But you also get the retro charm of a clamshell design that prompts you to call again.

Although this is a first generation product, there is much to like. If this is the direction in which foldable smartphones go, I was just looking forward to the new form factor.

Outstanding features

Motorola rebuilds the legendary RAZR with modern hardware. It is now a full-screen clamshell design, made possible by a foldable OLED panel. It will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 71

0 flagship lite processor and will contain a secondary display for interactions when the phone is closed.

Important Data

The Motorola RAZR was announced on November 13, 2019 at 19.00 PST. The event was held in downtown Los Angeles. Lenovo told the public that the phone will be available for pre-order on Verizon's website on December 26, 2019 (Boxing Day). It will appear on January 9, 2020.

storage capacity

For internal storage, only one option is available: 128 GB. We are glad that it has at least this amount. No microSD cards are supported. The only way to expand your storage is to use a USB-C flash drive such as SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive (from $ 8.97 on Amazon).

  • Available Memory: 128 GB
  • Expandable Memory: No

Price for Everything

The Motorola RAZR is available for $ 1,499. Although this price seems a bit high, you can see it this way: It is nearly $ 500 less expensive than the other foldable smartphone on the market, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, with a more practical design. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, it has not been recalled and delayed for nearly six months.

The bottom half of the back cover of the phone is made of textured plastic, which makes it easier to hold while rotating the phone with one hand. The top half of the back cover and the inside of the phone are also coated with glass. The RAZR is available in one color: Noir Black.

  • Frame: Glass
  • Finish: Noir Black

The phone is 6.77 inches tall and 2.83 wide when unfolded. But as with any flip-phone, you reduce the length considerably (by 45% in the RAZR). The width remains the same, but the thickness doubles from 0.27 inches to 0.55 inches.

This is an exclusive Verizon phone. However, you can take the phone to another network operator if it supports eSIM and has the right tapes. According to Brian Higgins, vice president of product and consumer equipment for the network operator ( via CNET), this is lifelong exclusivity, meaning you can not buy the phone at least in the US without going through Verizon. By default, Android 9 Pie executed. Lenovo promises a quick fix on Android 10 after the phone releases, which would make Android 10 four months old at the time. Motorola had an average of ten months updating its flagships on Android 9 Pie. So, for April 2020 (8 months later), we expect improvements for Android 10 that will help OEMs update the software.

On Motorola phones, there's usually a pretty barebones version of Android with some features and apps that make it technically "out of stock". The Skin of the Motorola RAZR emulates this style with some improvements.

According to XDA, Lenovo has creative plans on how to use the two screens. Below are some of the features that are rumored.

    • Using the external ad as a trackpad to scroll through web pages in Chrome when the phone is unfolded.
    • View up to six tiles for quick adjustments on the external screen when the phone is open when folded.
    • Since there is only one camera (the reversing camera), you'll need to flip the phone over with the screen away from you to take selfies when the phone unfolds. To facilitate this, Lenovo added the ability to tap anywhere on the screen to take the photo, not just the shutter button, and you can zoom up with a swipe. The idea that this should make it easier to take pictures even though the screen is not visible.
    • You can see the Google Assistant animation on the outside screen.
    • You can use different wallpapers for each display.
    • Version: New Motorola Skin on Android 9 Pie

The main display of the Motorola RAZR is called "Flex View". It is a 21.2 x 876 6.2-inch POLED with a 21: 9 aspect ratio, making it perfect for most films, like the Xperia 1 rotated this aspect ratio.

The interesting thing about the ad is how it triggers the fold. By sliding down the bottom edge of the screen and curling the screen into the hinge, it can be folded completely flat without kinking the display. The result is a phone that contains only minimal dirt particles when closed and is flat when folded out.

The "Quick View" external display is a GOLED panel with a resolution of 600 x 800 and an aspect ratio of 4: 3 View time, reply to messages, interact with Google Assistant, manage tiles for quick settings, and more. This is essentially an advanced lock screen for the Motorola RAZR.

The Motorola RAZR will be one of the first US phones to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 chipset use. As the name implies, it is right between the Midrange 600 Series and the 800 Series Flagship, providing flagship-like performance at a lower price.

The Snapdragon 710 includes many of the features you'd expect from the 800 Series, including the Snapdragon X15 LTE module for fast cellular data, 802.11ac with MU-MIMO support, and the ability to play HDR videos up to 4K ,

It is in GeekBench and Shares just below the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 in single-core and multi-core scores Many of the same architectures were found in the Snapdragon 845. And it is paired with 6GB of LDDR4X RAM.

    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
    • Chip Size: 10 nm
    • CPU Frequency: 2.2 GHz

    • GPU: Adreno 616

The RAZR uses a 2,510 mAh power cell. We believe that these are two connected batteries, which are distributed on both halves of the back cover. It will use 15W TurboPower for fast charging what Motorola will be included in the pack. Wireless charging is not supported.

    Reversing Camera

The star of the show is the reversing camera, and it is somewhat disappointing. It uses the Sony IMX 519 camera, a 16-MP sensor with a 1: 1.7 aperture and a sensor size of 1: 2.6 inches. This lens is the same one used in the OnePlus 6 in early 2018. Hopefully they will open this phone for the modding community to allow an official version of Gcam to be ported.

There is electronic image stabilization, but no optical dual LED flash. Overall, we do not recommend buying this phone if you are looking for a great camera, as this strongly reminds you that this phone has been manufactured for four years.
