Start the PC with the key combination Ctrl + Alt + Del

. This will solve your problem. Your computer restarts normally without a black screen.

It's unclear what caused this issue – just another problem with a Windows 10 update. However, this is a good reminder that you can use Ctrl + Alt + Del to get your PC out of all kinds of uncommon conditions. Ctrl + Alt + Del is not just for opening a Task Manager.

If this solution does not help fix a PC with a black screen, here are some other possible solutions:

  • Use Win + Ctrl + Shift + B to restart the video drivers on your PC. This may fix some problems.
  • Forcibly shut down your PC. In this case, all work steps are lost. Sometimes, however, this is the only option. To do this, press and hold the power button on your PC until it turns off. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button to turn it back on.
  • Make sure the keyboard and mouse are connected to the PC and have a battery – seriously! Your PC may only display a black screen when it shuts down the power-saving screen. There is a possibility that your keyboard will be disconnected from the mains, or your mouse's battery is dead and your PC can not receive the input.
