When Epic released in February (Season 8 of Fortnite: Battle Royale ), a new addition was added to the island: a volcano.
The players of the popular online game noted on Wednesday that something was different when they landed. The area around the volcano was trembling and a rune ̵
The players began to "feed" the volcano's items and materials, causing one meter in the rune to fill and make the volcano more active. Later, the volcano no longer accepted items that were thought to represent the end of the event, but instead the player was reset, requiring players to deposit more items.
Thanks to the Data Miners, who are digging for clues to what's going on in the game's data files, there's more evidence that the volcanic event may be just around the corner.
What time is the event?
A data miner found Thursday the time for an "Unvaulting Event" in the code of the game. The scheduled start time for the event seems to be at 15:00. ET / 12 pm PT on May 4th.
On Friday, just after noon, Fortnite players noticed a countdown clock over the vault on the island. It was counted down by 24 hours and is thus further proof that an event will take place on Saturday.
If these events happen over the weekend, more players can sign up. Last year, many players had registered during theto see what would happen.
What happens when the volcano erupts?
One key to knowing what could happen in the event is to remember what Epic called it: the Unvaulting Event. The Friday countdown clock stands directly above a vault. What is in the vault is unknown.
The name could also refer to the term "vaulting", which Epic calls when he removes a weapon or an object from the game for various reasons.
As for the natural disaster side of the event, data miners have discovered several assets found in the last update of the game – the v8.51 patch for the following things that can be linked to a volcanic eruption.
What happens next?
These in-game events tend to move from one season to the next. The game is currently in Season 8 and the release date for Fortnite Season 9 is expected to be May 9th.
Whatever happens at the event is likely to be the trigger for the new season's changes. This may include changes to the island, new skins and other enhancements to the game.
Epic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
