Once upon a time, the Gears of War series was as crucial as it gets. An equally important franchise for Microsoft as Metal Gear Solid was PlayStation.
But the attention has wavered. Similar to Halo, the series changed the development teams and the results have been mixed since then. There was the Sorta OK spin-off Gears of War: Judgment and then the slightly better Gears of War 4 .
Now there is a new one, and they keep the name slim and clean.
It is called.
Hold on, what's again gears of the war?
Gears of War is the Xbox exclusivity that was once a modest video game ̵
Epic Games was a studio best known for its unreal series of online first-person shooters before Cliff Blezinski and his team began work on the original Gears of War. It was a game inspired by Resident Evil 4 and its over-the-shoulder camera gimmick, but it took it to the next level with high-end HD graphics and stunning aesthetics.
Gears of War was an incredible-looking video game. It was the benchmark for years. When subsequent video games such as Heavenly Sword and the original Uncharted were released, the question was asked: Does it look better than Gears of War? The answer to this question was usually "no".
Gears of War was not only pretty, but also visceral. It was grim. It had an art style that influenced an entire generation. Do you remember the five years when all video games were just a bit "brown"? That was Gears of War's fault. The developers have been trying for years to mimic the melancholy art that made Gears of War so memorable, and few came closer.
It was not just the visual elements that made Gears of War magical – it was the weight ]. Gears of War was about fleshy men with huge muscles who stomp around with oversized weapons and kill bad guys. Best of all, it has made an incredible impact on you feeling that weight . Gears of War was like Predator: The Video Game. It also had an incredibly tactile cover system and an "active reload" mechanism that made players feel they were actually reloading weapons rather than just pressing a button.
Man, Gears of War was so fantastic .
Gears of War 2 was as great as Gears of War 3, which ended the main story arc.
Great. Brilliant. Brilliant.
What happened then?
Epic Games has discontinued the production of Gears of War games (finally, with Fortnite they met with incredible success). Microsoft had another studio called People Can Fly, which should help Epic with Gears of War: Judgment. This was essentially a spin-off focused on Damon Baird and Augustus Cole, two supporting characters from the original series. The critical reception was uneven and the sales were comparatively bad.
Time for a reboot?
Yes, exactly! And that's exactly what happened. Gears of War 4 started the development with a brand new studio and a brand new concept.
25 years after the events of the original Gears of War trilogy, Gears of War 4 follows JD Fenix, son of Marcus Fenix. the protagonist from the original games. This game was better adopted as "Gears of War: Judgment" and it is widely believed that the fans have brought the series back on track.
Now to Gears 5
Gears 5 now has a shorter name (they've removed the "of War" part) and is a straightforward sequel to Gears of War 4. It's by the same dev team (The Coalition) and the Team is led by Rod Fergusson, who was involved in the series from the start. Long story short, the series is in good hands.
Let's talk about the story now. This is a bit complicated, so I will be brief.
Since setting 25 years after the events of the first game, Gears of War 4 has created a new enemy: The Swarm, an evolved Hivemind version of the Locust that served as the Evil One in the first trilogy.
It is an interesting universe, a kind of post-apocalyptic space where crazy weather events can influence the tide of battle. Gears of War 4 has taken full advantage of this with its well-composed standard phrases. We hope to see more of them in Gears 5.
In Gears of War 4 you play as J.D Fenix (son of Marcus Fenix, the main character in the first trilogy). But it looks like Gears 5 is concentrating on Kait, a female character that was crucial to the storyline in Gears of War 4. As far as we can tell, Gears 5 will look at Kait's story and her attempts to understand the origin of the grasshopper and the swarm.

What can we expect in Gears 5?
The decision to make Kait the protagonist of Gears 5 therefore made sense to the head of the coalition studio, Rod Fergusson. He compares Gears of War 4 to Mad Max ($ 19 at Walmart) : "It was really Furiosa's story, and Max was the side kick. That's how it felt in Gears 4."
So you can probably expect that character and its wider arc to be more in focus.
Regarding the game itself, most of the sequels of this type concentrate on expanding the combat scope. Gears of War 4 was extremely dynamic in its environment. We hope that this will be expanded and we hope to learn more about this new, damaged version of the Earth.
