Google & Childish Gambino Follow Up Pixel Playground Met with Pharos AR App «Mobile AR News :: Next Reality

Google relies on Childish Gambino as musical master for Augmented Reality, as the duo has now discontinued its second AR collaboration of the year.

After Google unveiled its Playmoji for Pixel's Playground app, Gambino, earlier this year, the musical multi-threat Donald Dover alter ego, released on Wednesday the multiplayer app for advanced reality Pharos AR Google Play. (An iOS version will be available soon.)

The app opens a portal to a virtual world that is equally psychedelic and cosmic. Users are challenged to find mysterious glyphs throughout the digital environment, blurring the walls between the virtual and real worlds throughout the experience. Whenever each glyph is discovered, a 3D character is transported into the environment. Once all the glyphs are found, a ghostly avatar of Gambino appears, sending the user into orbit through the cosmos.

Since Gambino is a musical alter ego, spatial audio naturally plays a big role in the experience. During the virtual scavenger hunt, an originally looped beat builds up to a crescendo. Once the experience shoots into space, the soundtrack jumps into another gear.

"With Augmented Reality, you can bring digital content to the real world – and change the way you move, shop, learn, create, and experience what's around you," said Neil Parris, head of the company Entertainment partnerships for AR / Lens on Google, in a blog post.

"For artists and artists, AR can be used as an artistic field of expression and a way for fans to explore and interact with their content in a new way."

Because Cloud Anchors is a cross-platform multiplayer framework, Pharos will allow Android and iPhone / iPad users to enjoy the AR experience together once the app reaches Apple's App Store.

Already a celebrated actor, author As a musical artist, Glover has developed into one of the finest immersive media artists, and Gambino previously collaborated with AR on Apple, where he released a Lipy-dubbed version of his Grammy-winning track "Redbone "with Animoji for a TV commercial.

In addition, Gambino released the Pharos Earth VR experience for iOS and Android in conjunction with his 2016 album Awaken, My Love! that came with a VR headset for vinyl release.

Since Gambino is clearly not a beginner when it comes to AR and VR, he is an ideal influencer for Google to push his AR platforms. While the Childish Gambino Playmoji serves as a carrot for those involved with the pixel, Pharos AR serves as Sherpa for other artists to extend the musical experience beyond the album and the music video with ARCore and Cloud Anchors.

ARCore Not Without its acceptance (at least relative to Apple's ARKit), there were not many examples of Cloud Anchors in the Wild, except for Google's Just A Line App. Perhaps a small starpower will push developers to create their own multiplayer experiences using cloud anchors.
