Owners of Google Pixel devices can now play a wealth of imaginary friends thanks to the Playground Augmented Reality app.
The app, a rebrand of the AR Stickers app, was launched as an exclusive app for Google Pixel 3 and 3XL handsets in October. On Wednesday, Google unpacked the app on the Play Store, making the new features and packs, now known as Playmoji, available to previous-generation Pixel devices.
"The Playground lets you add more imagination to your images and videos with interactive Playmoji characters that react to and respond to you – and tell a richer story by adding animated stickers and creative captions." said Elisabeth Morant, Google's Product Manager for Playground, in a blog post.
The headliner Playmoji set is the Marvel Studio Avengers Pack, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Okoye (from Black Panther ) and Nebula (from the Guardians of the Galaxy ) in the physical space of the user. Each character also has three poses that the user can trigger. (It should be noted that each character survived the extinction of half the creatures of the universe in Avengers: Infinity War .)
More new packs include each weather, pets , Travel, sports and signs made up of 3D characters representing their title themes. So if you are bored with the Avengers, there is plenty to play.
Playground also brings a variety of animated stickers, some from Android Messages, to AR. For example, Kiss Fist ASL contains a set of cartoon characters of American sign language phrases, while Long Live the Blob revives Google's blob style of Emojis.
