As Android device partners deliver new products, Google has stepped up efforts to ensure that users can enjoy ARCore apps after launching their new toys.
Google has updated the page ARCore Supported Devices on Monday Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4, the Sony Xperia ZX2 series of mobile phones and the Nokia 6.1 Plus.
Since launching ARCore 1.0 to 13 devices in February, Google has expanded support for more than 60 Android devices in the US and five models in China, as well as 12 Apple products to support the Cloud Anchors multiplayer Platform.
We've already noticed that Google's app-based approach to its Augmented Reality Toolkit gives it some flexibility to push updates to devices, the latest round of device support updates shows the downside. Since ARCore is not integrated with Android, Google has to face the compatibility of individual devices for individual devices.
Conversely, ARKit is integrated with iOS, so iPhone and iPad owners are not separate App to ensure that AR features are unlocked for their selected ARKit apps.
Nevertheless, Google seems to make it a priority to ensure that as many new Android devices as possible support ARCore outside the gate.
