The feud between President Trump and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer resumed Saturday night after attendees sang “Lock her up!” At a Trump rally in their home state. and the president said to the crowd, “Lock them all up.”
“It has to stop,” the governor – who was the target of a kidnapping plan thwarted by the FBI last week – wrote on Twitter.
“This is precisely the rhetoric that has put me, my family and other government officials at risk as we seek to save the lives of our fellow Americans,” she wrote.
Whitmer’s tweet was linked to a clip from the president telling thousands of fans in Muskegon on Saturday that they had to “get your governor to open up your state”
“And make your schools open. Open your schools. Schools have to be open, right? “Said Trump when some in the crowd started singing” lock them up! “
“Lock them all up,” replied the President as the chants continued.
Whitmer’s remarks on Saturday were in line with what she made about the president last Thursday after authorities announced the arrest of 13 militia members who allegedly planned to kidnap them as part of a plot that also stormed the State Capitol and a second American Civil War was started.
The governor then slammed what she said was Trump’s refusal to condemn white supremacy and extremism in the US
After the news of the abduction broke, Trump compared Whitmer to “a dictator” and told Fox Business News that “people can’t stand her” because it has strict coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
“Our head of state has for the past seven months denied science, ignored his own health experts, fueled suspicion, fueled anger, and comforted those who spread fear, hatred, and division,” she then said.
