The Epic Games Store for PC continues its weekly giveaway. Some weeks are better than others, and this one is very good indeed: you can grab it Into the breach for nothing, zero, nada. Into the breach is an excellent turn-based strategy game that we selected as one of the best games of 201
Into the breach is often described as “giant robotic chess,” and that’s a pretty good way to sum it up. You control up to three robots at the same time and move over a very small turn-based grid to slap giant alien bugs in the face. (You can also shoot and zap them, but the punching is great as explained in the documentation Pacific Rim).
Different machines have different weapons, and it is possible to predict the fairly basic movements of the beetles for them to harm each other or get caught in environmental traps. As the stages of the game get more difficult, even your fully updated ‘Mechs will not be enough, and you will have to rely on the strategic positioning of the aliens to turn their strengths into weaknesses.
As you move from battlefield to battlefield, you’ll gain access to upgraded equipment and more experienced mech pilots. The punishment difficulty means you’ll likely have to restart multiple times, but thanks to some science fiction buzzwords, you can take your best pilot into each new game and try different combinations of a few dozen robots to find the best synergy strategy to defend the Planets.
To attempt Into the breach. It’s free on the Epic Games Store through Thursday, September 17th. It’s also available on the Switch or Steam (if you hate Epic) for a very fair $ 15.
