The Guardians will return but with a new director.

Marvel Studios

It could be the biggest salvation the Guardians of the Galaxy have pulled to this day. Serial director and author James Gunn is back in the film after being fired in 201

8 after off-color tweets sparked online indignation.

"I am infinitely grateful to all the people who supported me there." Gunn has been tweeting on March 15. "I am always learning and will continue to work to be the best person I can be . "

Ever since Gunn's been fired last summer, the film's future has been in turmoil. Fan Petitions urged Disney to re-let it, and the Stars signed an open letter requesting the studio to return Gunn.

Restarting comes as a surprise to some. As early as August, Variety reported that due to the content of the tweets and the family-friendly image of Disney, he probably would not be reinstated, even though Gunn had already completed a screenplay for the third film.

So what has changed? Deadline reports that Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, has been influenced by Gunn's public apology and his dealings with the situation.

Release Date, Production Info

What does this mean for the release date of the movie? It's in the air like Star Lord's ship, the Milano (named after Alyssa!). Before Gunn was shot, many thought filming would start in the fall of 2019 for a theatrical release in 2020. But with the shake-up and its return, we'll probably see a whole new timeline.

Filming locations are of course not yet known, but the first film was shot mainly in London, the second in Atlanta. Guardians Vol 2. reportedly used all 18 sound stages of Pinewood Studios Atlanta. The third movie will remain in Atlanta whenever it is produced for space reasons.

"We shot the first Guardians in England, but since Pinewood Atlanta has so much room on the stage, we were able to lead the entire production base of the lot," Gunn said in production notes for Vol. 2. "Although many films CGI I like having as many practical sets as possible and making the environments as real as possible to balance the CGI elements. "

Cast: Who is who? [19659019] Plotting news, rumors and theories

Who is dead? If you've seen Avengers: Infinity War (spoiler ahead), you know . Thanos killed many of Marvel's heroes, and the guards did not remain unharmed. Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Mantis and Groot all seem to be dead. But Avengers 4 could bring back some or all of them. With the exception of Gamora, all were dissolved when Thanos finally acquired all the Infinity Stones and "balanced" the universe. Gamora's death seems more final – her adoptive father Thanos threw her off a cliff to make the sacrifice that makes him a jewel of the soul. However, some fans argue that it could be held inside the Soul Gem and thus released later. Let's hope for the sake of poor Peter Quill.

Woman, I'm Adam: Superhero Adam Warlock was hinted at in one of the trailer scenes at the end of the Guardians Vol. 2. Ayesha faces a kind of cocoon containing a person and announces: " I think I'll call him Adam. " Adam Warlock has been a Marvel character since 1967, and Gunn had mentioned that he was in Vol. 3.

Do not Annoy Me: Before shooting / rehiring, Gunn told a young fan on Twitter, that cute naive Mantis for Vol. 3.

Check the Calendar: Gunn has promised verse. 3 would eventually come after Avengers: Endgame which makes sense as we give this film hope to bring most Guardians back to life.

Sly Stallone could be back, after all: Sylvester Stallone played Stakar in Vol. 2, and when that movie came out, Gunn told the Toronto Sun that he wanted to see more of the character. But there were no high expectations in Vol. 3. "I'm not sure he'll appear in Volume 3, we need to think about it, but it's our plan to see more of Stallone," Gunn said.

Let the music play: Guardians Vol. 1 and 2 were celebrated for their own retro soundtracks selected by Gunn himself. Before firing, he was already well on the way to choosing the music for the third film – well. A tweet he sent in 2017 claimed he had narrowed the list of songs to 181 Decisions and by October 2017, he said the soundtracks were almost all selected . As for Gunn's final decisions, he once told Cinema Blend that he was being pulled out of a master list of pieces that he believed the deceased mother of Star Lord, Meredith, wished.

First release on August 6 at 9:35 pm PT.
