At least one person died on Thursday after a shooting in a busy shopping and tourist district in San Francisco, according to multiple reports.
The San Francisco Police Department closed a “wide area” around Union Square, which is home to high-quality retail stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Chanel. The public was asked to avoid the area as the authorities were conducting an investigation.
“Avoid the Union Square (Stockton & Geary) area due to police activity. Emergency teams are on-site,” the San Francisco Emergency Management department tweeted at 8:24 pm ET. “Expect traffic delays, consider alternative routes, and allow additional travel time.”

The full circumstances of filming, which began around 8 p.m. EST, were not immediately known from the Bay Area, according to FOX 2.

Authorities said the incident started as an altercation and at least one person had been arrested. The shooting victim was originally taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
According to the station, the police department’s murder squad has taken over the investigation.
