While iOS 12 is still pretty fresh, the first point release will be released today. This brings a handful of new features, such as Group Facetime, Dual SIM support, camera enhancements, new emoji, and more.
Originally announced at WWDC in June, Group Facetime will allow up to 32 people to join FaceTime together at one time. There are so many people.
But here's the best part: all 32 crazy kids will be able to use Animoji and Memoji if you use FaceTime, which even makes FaceTime's insane 32-person experience go crazy … r. Expect dogs, cats, aliens, dinosaurs, and everything else to participate in your conversations.
When Apple announced the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, the camera's real-world capabilities really got fanned – especially the real-time depth-of-field control. While this feature was not available at startup, iOS 12.1 brings it to all compatible phones (XS, Max, XR). This will make your portrait photos even better.
Speaking of portrait photography, 12.1 also fixes the "beautygate" bug, which causes photos like so many "beauty cams" to be excessively smoothed out. Time to let your true self shine through.
Dual SIM Support
XS, XS Max and XR are the first iPhone to support dual SIM cards – that's what that means – but this feature was not active at startup. It's at 12.1, so you can run two carriers simultaneously on a single phone.
What is an iPhone update without a new emoji? I say that it is not an update that is worth talking about. To strengthen the relevance of 12.1, there are over 70 new emojis on board. Phew – for a second we thought this whole thing was a big waste of time.
iOS 12.1 is introduced today, go to Settings> General> Software Update to get it as it becomes available.
