Right, now you can use voice commands like “Hey Google, order a smoothie for postmates”. Once you’ve installed the Postmates app, your phone will guide you through the process. All without getting your dirty fingers on your screen.
You need an Android phone with an assistant function. Sorry folks who made Alexa their primary assistant. The corresponding apps must also be installed on your phone. To start with, the new Hey Google feature will work with over 30 apps, and Google promises more to come.
Currently, that list includes Spotify, Twitter, Postmates, Walmart, Snapchat, MyFitnessPal, and more. What you can do depends on the apps themselves, but the commands make sense enough.
For example, you can say, “Hey Google, find Motivation Mix on Spotify” or “Log a berry smoothie on MyFitnessPal”. If you use a particular command frequently, you can create shortcuts to make the command even easier to use. For example, instead of saying, “Hey Google, when will my Walmart order arrive?” You can create the “Hey Google, Walmart Status” shortcut.
The new feature is introduced today. So if you have a current Android phone with the assistant enabled, give it a try.
