Alexa App

An update in early 2018 brought Alexa to the place it should have been: The Alexa App . Now when you open the app, the Alexa icon will be in the middle of the toolbar at the bottom of the app. When you tap it, the wizard activates, just as you would when you say the Wake Word to an Alexa speaker.

Amazon Shopping App

The first place where Alexa was available for Android was the Amazon Shopping app. When you open the app, you'll see a microphone icon in the upper-right corner above the search bar. It used to be a voice search that allowed you to find things to buy or track your orders.

If you now tap the microphone icon, you can access the full power of Alexa within the Amazon Shopping app. You can stream music from Amazon Music, listen to your audiobooks (or have Alexa read your Kindle books), control your Smart Home, hear news, and so on. You can also activate abilities play games, get deeper weather and much more.

When you open the app, you are prompted to start Alexa and grant the app permission to access the device microphone. Once you do this, just say "Alexa" when the app is open. The wizard will go just as well as your smart speakers. The idea is that you can control your music freehand, but you can also release almost every queues or queues abilities from the Amazon Music app.

Set Alexa as the default assistant

Under Android, you can also set Alexa as the default digital assistant (replacing Google Assistant). It is not guaranteed to work with all Android devices, but to do this you need to have the Alexa app installed first. Next, open Settings and navigate to Assist App . Choose Amazon Alexa. However, this does not work with hands-free activation and prevents the "Hey, Google" wake phrase from working. Instead, you have to long press the Home button to call Alexa after you have set her as the default assistant for Android.
