Facebook had tested a dark mode for its messenger app, which limited the scope of the test by asking it to unlock it as a hidden feature by sending. The extra step was fun unlocking and also encouraged others to unlock the black look while friends posted random moons in chats.
Facebook announced recently that the Easter egg is no longer needed. Now anyone can turn on Messenger's dark mode without first unlocking it. Why use the dark mode? The use of a dark mode is not only easier for your eyes, can also save battery life.
Turning on dark mode in Messenger requires only a few steps:
- Open the Facebook Messenger and tap on your profile icon in the upper left corner.
- The Dark Mode toggle is the first option under your profile photo.
- Turn on dark mode and watch as white is immediately replaced by black.
If you do not have Dark Mode yet, you can do this Wait until Facebook has made the feature available to everyone, or you can try sending the Halfmoon Emoji (conversation) in a conversation to the unlock previously hidden function.
To switch back to the brighter version of Messenger, simply repeat the steps above and turn off Dark Mode.
