How to add current weather conditions to the new Chromecast’s screensaver «Gadget Hacks

While the new Google TV interface and the ability to run apps steal the scene from the new Chromecast, Google’s new hardware has many of the same features as its predecessors.

This includes Ambient Mode, the screen saver (formerly known as wallpaper) that turns your TV into a giant digital photo frame when the Chromecast is inactive.

However, one of the more useful features of Ambient Mode – displaying current weather conditions – isn’t immediately activated. How to add it to your TV.

Method 1: the Chromecast remote

The addition of a remote control sets the Chromecast with Google TV apart from its predecessors. By interacting directly with the device, you can adjust the settings without your smartphone.

Step 1: access settings

Google wants you to live in the “For You” space, where your content from supported streaming apps is curated on one screen. As a result, it is not immediately clear where the settings are.

In the top menu, scroll right to your profile photo. Click on it to open the notification area where you can find the Settings app.

Step 2: Navigate to Environment Display Settings

In Settings, scroll down to System and click on it.

Then scroll down to the Environment Viewer and click on it.

Step 3: Activate the weather indicator

In Ambient Mode Settings, scroll down to Weather. In the preview window you will find that it is set to “Hide”.

Click Weather to enter edit mode. Scroll down to select your preferred units of measure to display and you’re done.

Return to the Ambient Mode Settings page and select “Start Now” to confirm the display. Why not?

Method 2: the Google Home app

Without a user interface, older Chromecast generations can only be configured via the Google Home app. Although it has its own direct input, you can also configure the new device via the Home app.

Step 1: Install the Google Home app

You need the Home app to set up your Chromecast. So you should already have them on your smartphone. So the first step is easy!

  • Install App Full Name: Android (Free) | iOS (free)

Step 2: Access the Chromecast Settings

On the Home app homepage, find the Chromecast. You may need to scroll if you have multiple devices. Unless you chose a different name during setup, the device will likely be named after the room it is in, e.g. B. “Living Room TV”.

Tap the appropriate icon and find the gear icon. Tap it to open Access Settings.

Step 3: Enter the Environment Mode settings

Tap Environment Mode to enter the settings. You can find the weather options in the middle of the page. As with Method 1, choose your preferred units of measure and you’re done.
