Apple's default podcasts in iOS remain my focal point for all podcast listening needs, but skipping during an episode can be frustrating his. Scrubbing audio along the timeline is often an inaccurate maneuver, so the skip buttons can be so useful and efficient. Without adjusting the jump lengths, you may need to tap far more than you need to.
The back and forward skip buttons in the Podcasts app were set to 1
5 seconds in iOS 11 and lower and could not be changed. In iOS 12 and above, the default jump lengths are different, with the jump back still 15 seconds, but skipping forward has been increased to 30 seconds. Apple has also made it possible to adjust the jump times in iOS 12, a much-needed improvement.
Adjustments are made depending on the type and volume of podcasts you listen to (I use dozens of long form shows with many commercial breaks) Setting the buttons to "Goldilocks" can greatly enhance the listening experience.
Open the Settings app, search for podcasts, and tap it. Next scroll to section Skip Buttons . "Forward" and "Backward" are set to 30 or 15 seconds by default.
