From XXXTentacion to R. Kelly, many artists have been charged with improper actions, so some of us simply do not want to hear their music anymore. However, every time streaming services try to ban such artists, they are confronted with heavy setbacks. When Tidal realized this, he decided to offer another solution.
Tidal prevents artists or songs from appearing on curated playlists. You can still search for the artist, and any new album or song you publish will appear on the main tab, but will no longer appear in My Mix, personalized radio, or other Tidal-created playlists. This allows Tidal to calm down both sides of the aisle. For those who like the artist, they can still listen. If you do not want to support them, you can easily avoid them.
Blocking artists and songs
To block an artist or song, open a curated playlist. You can start a My Mix playlist and wait for the artist or song to appear. However, if you have a specific song or artist in mind, look for them.
If it is an artist, search for the artist and open the artist page. Select the radio button to the right of its name (see screenshot). Select "Play" to start the radio. The first song usually contains the selected artist. Select the icon to the right of the playback controls (a circle with a slash above it). You will be asked if you want to block the song or the artist. Select Block Artists, and now all songs with the artist will no longer appear in curated playlists, even if the playlist is a radio station of the artist.
Search for the track for a particular track and select the three vertical dots to the right of the track name out. Select "Track Radio" and then "Play." Select the same icon to the right of the playback controls and choose Block Track.
What happens if you're an artist or an artist? Block the song accidentally? Or what if you change your mind about a track or a musician? You can just undo the block as well.
Select the My Collection tab and the gear icon in the upper-right corner of your display. Scroll down until you see the Content grouping. Select "Locked" to see your current list of locked artists and songs. To unlock, simply tap "Unlock" next to the artist or song and confirm your selection in the popup] This article appeared during Gadget Hacks' special coverage of streaming, listening to, and creating music and podcasts Created on your smartphone.
