Nobody likes in-app advertising, especially when it comes to mobile gaming, but it is necessary because it allows developers to earn revenue without having to pay fees to play. In some games, in-app purchases allow you to remove ads. But what can you do with apps that don't have the ability to turn off ads?
In most cases it is recommended to find a way to accept them as it is the only source of income that the game may collect and that can be invested in the game through frequent updates, new levels and more. However, some apps can run ads that may show you five 30-second video ads in just five minutes.
For games with a variety of ads, the game itself may not be worth playing unless you do something about it. First, it's helpful to email the developer to request an in-app purchase option that can be used to permanently remove ads. If that doesn't work, there are a few tricks you can use to keep advertising to a minimum and play your game freely. Prevent ads from showing while the other ads are blocking.
Although ad blockers can interfere with some of the features in the game played (unlocking characters, free game currency, awards, etc.), ads can be removed. Provide your iPhone with a cleaner and subjectively better gaming experience.
: Enabling Airplane Mode
Most, if not all, of the mobile ads that appear in mobile games are sent to you over an Internet connection, so you may be able to disable them by using both Wi-Fi data as well as deactivate cellular data on your device. The easiest way to do this is to enable airplane mode.
The fastest and easiest way to activate airplane mode is to open the control center. For iPhone models with Face ID, swipe down from the top right of the display. For Touch ID models, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
Then tap the airplane icon to turn it on (it turns orange). The mobile phone data symbol changes from green to gray and cannot be switched on again in airplane mode. By default, the Wi-Fi icon changes from blue to gray, but it can be reactivated . If you had ever done this before, iOS would remember your choice. Tap the WiFi button if it's still blue to hide it.
Your iPhone is no longer connected to the Internet, which disables advertising in your phone games should be. In some cases, empty placeholders for the ads may appear, but the ads themselves should only appear or play if they were created offline. However, this is hardly the case.
You may have other obstacles. Certain mobile games may not work if you are not connected to the Internet. So try one of the following methods. As mentioned earlier, the ads may disappear, but they can affect certain features if the game requires an internet connection for certain features.
Popular Virtual Private Networks or VPNs in the App Store had system-wide adblocking features, but Apple refused to do so after a policy change they only limited to safari. However, with newer guidelines, VPN apps have again received some more comprehensive functions for blocking ads.
Luna is considered one of the best free VPNs for mobile devices and not only unlocks websites and encrypts incoming and outgoing data from your smartphone – it also blocks ads in most third-party apps, including games.
- App Store link: Luna (free)
First, download Luna to your iPhone, open it, and make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi or it won't work. Then tap the on / off switch in the middle of the page, click "Allow" when the app asks if you want to add a VPN configuration, and then enter your passcode. Finally, Luna automatically connects to the VPN. Once you've connected, ads should disappear from all mobile games downloaded from the App Store.
Beware of malfunctions in the game with this method too. As with all free VPNs, Luna makes its money by selling your data, so the compromise may or may not be worth it for you.
Method 3: Use a dedicated ad blocker.
If you go to "Ad Blocker" on the App Store, you get dozens of options to download, but most only work with Safari and third-party web browsers. However, there are some apps such as Weblock or Adblock that block ads system-wide – even in mobile games – for a low price. We're going to use Weblock, which costs $ 1.99. Regardless of which app you are using, the process should be explained in the app.
Open Weblock after installation and follow the appropriate steps to copy the provided configuration link. Then open the Settings app, go to Wi-Fi and tap the information icon next to the Wi-Fi you are connected to. You need to be connected to Wi-Fi for this to work.
Scroll down in the Wi-Fi settings and go to "Proxy." configure ", which should be deactivated by default. Select "Automatic" from the various options and paste the configuration link into the URL field. Then click on "Save" and open Weblock.
In Weblock (or any other ad blocker you use), enable the various ones available to you standing ad blocker filter. Below are blockers for all types of ads, including general, Chinese, Russian, and app-specific ads. Once the right ones are activated, ads in your mobile games should disappear.
