How to Change the Default Search Engine in Safari on the iPhone or iPad

  Google Search

Safari uses Google by default as the default search engine. However, this is not the only option. You can choose other search engines like Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo if you prefer them.

Although most modern search engines can find the sites they are looking for, there are often some implications to consider when choosing them. Google is the big player here, but depending on your privacy position, you might want to choose something else. For example, DuckDuckGo is a more private search engine, and Bing is integrated with Microsoft Rewards. The change in Safari on your iPhone or iPad is very easy as long as you know where to look.

Change the default search engine in Safari to iPhone and iPad

First, open the Settings app and tap "Safari."

 Open Settings. Tap Safari

Then, under the "Search" heading, tap "Search Engine."

 Tap Search Engine

. Finally, select the search engine you want to use as the default in Safari. To select a search engine, tap on it. You can choose between Google, Yahoo, Bing or DuckDuckGo.

I'm sorry – these are the only options. Apple can not choose other search engines as standard. You can still navigate to these search engines in Safari and search them from their website, but that's it. The only way to get more options is if Apple adds it in a future version of the iOS operating system.

Tap the search engine you want to use

. a reservation that you should consider here. This setting only changes the default search engine used when searching in Safari. If you use Siri or Spotlight for the search, Google will continue to be used. It's not ideal, but Google pays a significant amount to Apple every year, so unfortunately this is going to be the situation we have to live with.
